The purpose of the post is to provide high quality advice, guidance and support to students progressing to higher education, apprenticeships or employment. To develop progression routes for students through excellent risks with HE providers, employers and apprenticeship providers. To support students with locating work experience placements as part of their study programme. To locate employers to work as mentors for students, as part of the 7 th form offer. Main Duties and Responsibilities The successful applicant will be expected to: Deal with enquiries from applicants seeking to join Telford College courses, helping them to give early consideration to progression plans. To provide high quality advice, guidance and support to all students progressing to HE, apprenticeship or employment, undertaking individual careers guidance interviews and involving parents as appropriate. To develop appropriate links with HE providers and employers which meet the needs of individual students and the college as a whole. This will include for example developing specific pathways/progression routes with universities and/or employers for identified cohorts of students, planning and arranging HE or career fairs and advice days. To work with others in developing appropriate systems to support learners in progressing to HE and employment, including taking a lead on support for UCAS applications. 1
2 To work with personal tutors and individual learners to develop career planning skills as appropriate. To contribute to the gifted and talented programme and other college initiatives to raise achievement. To provide high quality advice and guidance for learners in a rapidly developing context, playing a significant role in admissions process.. Deal with enquiries from adult learners as appropriate. To update and maintain appropriate reference materials and resources. To maintain records for the college and external use. Production of associated statistical returns and reports as appropriate, in particular destinations data. To use the information to identify future priorities. To take a lead role in working with external agencies and networks as appropriate such as Future Focus, Shropshire Youth and Aspire. To work with others in maintaining external quality standards including Matrix Accreditation and nvestors in Careers. To work with others in supporting learners in the range of services offered by Student Services. Other Corporate Responsibilities Reflect the vision, mission, aims and values of the College. Always strive for continuous improvement in your professional practice and delivery of outcomes. Participate in the College s appraisal process and engage in continuous professional development. Carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required from time to time. Level 6 Diploma in Careers Guidance or equivalent. A/C 2. Evidence of recent continuing professional development, seeking to undertake further training relevant to the post. A/C 3. Recent experience of working in careers guidance or a related field in an educational setting providing AG. 4. Very good and up to date knowledge of progression routes into HE, apprenticeships ad employment, understanding of 14-19, 16-19, curriculum developments and proven track record of working with young adults in this or a related area. 5. Previous experience of developing links with HE providers and employers essential. 6. A working knowledge of UCAS and evidence of the application of this knowledge. /C 7. The ability to form good rapport with students and the ability to support and guide a wide range of learners including adult learners. 8. The ability to lead the development of the HE and careers service and to contribute to the wider work of the student services team. 3
4 9. The ability to present to large groups of students and parents about options choices. 10. Track record of supporting students with progression planning and tracking of destinations. 11. Experience of event planning such as careers fayres and festivals as well as arranging visits for students to external events such as UCAS convention skills show etc. 12.
