1 IMPACT ON WELFARE MEASURES ON THE PRODUCTIVITY OF THE EMPLOYEES AT BHEL, TRICHY KIRTHIKA.J* Department of Management Studies, Periyar Maniammai University, Thanjavur ABSTRACT Employee welfare measures mean The effort to make life worth living for workmen welfare measures are the important role of industrial relation. it is the impact of the industrial relation. Welfare measures determine to motivate and retain the employees in an organization. And then welfare measure does not directly increase the productivity but an organization satisfies the employee and reduces turnover. The present study is made an attempt to identify welfare measures provided by the employees in BHEL Trichy. The various welfare measures to increase manpower productivity and commitments of the employees and then this paper is based on factories Act, This paper was indicates the impact of welfare measures on the productivity of the employees. The data collection was done through the questionnaire method. The tools used for this paper was percentage analysis, chi-square, one way ANOVA, regression. The sample size used for this paper is 153. Simple Random Sampling was used in this study. Keywords: welfare measures, BHEL Trichy, productivity, welfare facilities. 1. Introduction Employee welfare is a term including various services, benefits and facilities offered to employees by the employers. The welfare measures need not be monetary but in any kind/forms. This includes items such as allowances, housing, transportation, medical insurance and food. Employee welfare also includes monitoring of working conditions, creation of industrial harmony through infrastructure for health, industrial relations and insurance against disease, accident and unemployment for the workers and their families. Through such generous benefits the employer makes life worth living for employees. Welfare also refers to improve standard works to employees and refers to taking care of well being of workers by employers, trade union, governmental and non- governmental agencies. An organization provides various facilities for workers and workers family. The welfare measure followed by factories Act, so it classified two categories.(i) statutory (ii) non statutory provision. The statutory schemes are compulsory to provide by an organization as compliance to the laws 54
2 governing employee health and safety. The non statutory schemes differ from organization to organization and from industry to industry. 2. Review of literature Dr.Usha Tiwari (2014) focused on employee welfare facilities and its impact on employees efficiency at Vindha Telelinks. The employee welfare facilities provided by the company to the employees are satisfied and it is commendable, but still of scope is there for further improvement. So that efficiency, effectiveness and productivity can be enhanced to accomplish the organization goals. Srinivas.KT (2013) sought to determine the welfare facilities adopted at Bosch ltd, Bangalore. The primary data was collected through the direct interview with questionnaire method and secondary data collected through reports, magazines and journals. The labour welfare facilities provided by the company to employees are satisfied and it is commendable, but still of scope is there for further improvement, so that is efficiency, effectiveness and productivity can be enhanced to accomplished by the organizational goal. K.Logasakthi,K.Rajagopal(2013)focused to employee health, safety and welfare measures of chemical industry,salem. The employees of this industry not only the satisfaction of their jobs but also various facilities given by the firms, the labours extend the maximum support for the improvement of the company. the management provide health, safety and welfare facility to employee that will help to improve the better performance in work and working environment. Deepak kumar agrawal(2014) identified analysis of employees welfare and safety measures in maharathna company. This article says that, the employees are highly motivated in the organization because the employees are satisfy the working conditions and welfare facilities. 3.Research methodology 3.1Objectives To identify the various welfare measures for the employees at BHEL. To analyse the impact of welfare measures on the productivity of the employee. 3.2Research design Research design is the blueprint of the various methods for conducting the research project. It includes the procedures for obtaining the information needed, the way in which they are processed and the method of presentation of the results to solve the research problem. Even though the research designs are too many, the present study followed the Descriptive research design. 3.2.Sampling techniques: The method of sampling used in simple randam technique 3.2.2Population:153 were choosen from bharath heavy electrical limited Method of data collection: Primary data collected by questionnaire method and the secondary data collected by journals, reports Tools for analysis: The analysis by using percentage analysis,chi-square, and regression. 55

Alternate hypothesis(h1): There is significant relationship between the level of satisfaction of employees with available welfare measures and the impact of welfare measures on the productivity of the employees. 56

The null hypothesis is rejected. Therefore it is concluded that there is significant relationship between the level of satisfaction of employees with available welfare measures and the impact of welfare measures on the productivity of the employees inbhel. The minimum expected count is.05. Interpretation The table value shows 5%level of significant in so null hypothesis is rejected. Hence there is significant association between grade for employees and the level of awareness of various welfare measures of the employees Conclusion Every organization provide various welfare measure facilities based on factories Act, like wash room, recreational, education, transport facilities. In BHEL, they provide educational allowance, subsidy paid to apprentices and travel allowance to their employees not only allowances the organization provide community hall also provide to employees. So, The Welfare measures is helps to develop the healthy relationship with an organization. The fundamental concept of welfare measures is to enrich the life of employees and to retain the employees in an organization and it determines to increase the productivity of an organization. Finally, I conclude that the employees are satisfied with welfare measures and the welfare measures improve the productivity of an organization. Reference 1.Srinivas.
