3 Coaching and Mentoring The power of coaching and mentoring as a learning and development tool has been increasingly recognised in the workplace. Managers are frequently asked to provide a coaching leadership style or to act as mentors, but often lack the specific knowledge and skills required. It is increasingly apparent that HR and L&D professionals need this credible skillset to support the needs of the people in their organisations. A people-centred approach Coaching is effectively a conversation between two people and is focused on unlocking a person s potential to maximise their own performance. Using effective listening and questioning skills, a coach helps explore options to enhance performance of the coachee and to find their own solutions to issues they may be experiencing in professional life. As well as enhancing an individual s potential, it accelerates progress by providing greater focus and awareness of choice. At CAKE we provide bespoke coaching programmes tailored to your organisation, enabling you to empower your teams and guide them. Our expert coaches work with individuals at all stages of their career and are specialists in executive coaching to help business leaders succeed. Coaching starts by concentrating on where you are now and what you are willing to do to get where you want to be in the future. Helping to identify barriers that may be preventing people being more effective in their roles. Promoting individual responsibility for performance and development. Providing individuals with feedback on strengths and areas for development which is supported by 360 feedback. How does it work? Selecting a coach Following a detailed conversation to understand your requirements, we will put forward three best fit coach profiles so you can choose the coach you want to work with. Working with your CAKE coach will give you the confidence to share your needs and help you gain the confidence that you are working with an empathetic professional whose aim is to see you progress. The Coaching Sessions Prior to the first session, your coach will call you in order to build rapport and agree the details of the first session. Typically there will be five sessions and a mixture of face to face and telephone or Skype conversations. Coaching sessions will take place at a venue and within a timescale to suit you and are usually completed within six months. Support Coaching We recommend that you complete our 360 feedback process before starting coaching and once again at the end. This provides powerful feedback and information for you to help demonstrate progress made on your goals and objectives. It can also provide an effective measure of ROI. CMI Level 5 Certificate and Diploma in Management Coaching and Mentoring At CAKE we have created a coaching and mentoring programme to develop skills and demonstrate credibility. Our CMI Level 5 Certificate and Diploma in Management Coaching and Mentoring has been designed to support managers with the development of management coaching and mentoring skills, identifying the links between coaching, mentoring and the achievement of business goals. The programme is aimed squarely at the in-house coach and mentor, and covers a wide variety of topics ranging from understanding organisational culture and mentoring for teams and individuals through to performance management and the strategic development of staff. We provide open programmes leading to awards, certificates and diplomas to Level 7, accredited by the two best known membership and accreditation bodies in the increasingly professionalised roles of management and leadership. The Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) and Chartered Management Institute (CMI) programmes combine the rigour of assessment with a practical learning experience. While both organisations set their own standards for qualification, there is still plenty of scope for CAKE to construct a programme to meet the specific needs of your business. 7 How does employee engagement benefit my business? Feeling Valued By asking employees for their input on a survey, they will feel their views and ideas are being valued. This may also boost employee morale because it lets employees know that they matter to the company. Improving Internal Communication Surveying employees is a form of communication between employees and managers, so the surveying process can strengthen employee and managerial relations. Improving Morale Developing an employee satisfaction survey is a useful way to identify potential morale concerns. It can also highlight ways to improve conditions for employees before they have a negative impact on the organisation.
