There have not been many Returning SRAs up to this point, because Returning SRAs must have consistently demonstrated the highest level of competence in all areas of the job during their first year, and be able to demonstrate the ability to continue high levels of job performance for the upcoming year. The successful applicant must have consistently demonstrated a high level of competence in all areas of the Returning SRA job as outlined in the job description. Returning SRAs are required to be in good academic standing with a preferred GPA of 2.7. Please print or save the Returning SRA Candidate Information Packet for future reference. You must read all enclosures thoroughly prior to completing the supplemental application materials. 2 RETURNING SENIOR RESIDENT ADVISOR (SRA) SELECTION PROCESS CHECKLIST Review the Returning SRA Candidate Information Packet Materials: Returning SRA Selection Process Checklist and SRA Job Description. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 by 12:00pm: Deadline to complete and submit the online application via Google: will be sent to Senior RA candidates regarding interview signups after January 10 th. Tuesday, January 16 Friday, January 19: Interviews for SRA candidates will be held. After you have successfully sent all your application materials by January 10, 2018, an will be sent to you with directions for scheduling your interview. Please be sure to appear at least 5 minutes early for the time slot you scheduled. If you do not receive an with scheduling information by January 12th, please call Student Housing and Dining Services at Early February: Candidates will be notified of the outcome of the selection process via . If we do not notify you of a decision by mid-february, please contact our office. Selection for positions will be based on a completed application, recommendations for hire and job appraisal by area professional staff and your SRA. Spring 2018: Selected candidates are required to attend a weekly SRA class (time to be determined). Selected staff must complete a successful background check prior to move-in and the beginning of work. Mid-August 2018: All selected staff members are expected to arrive in August and participate in Fall training. Enrollment in summer session II is prohibited due to its conflict with the program. Please plan ahead accordingly so that you do not miss any training. If you cannot make all of the required training days, you cannot continue employment in the Senior Resident Advisor role.
3 Senior Resident Advisor Job Description Residential Education Office University of California, Davis The Senior Resident Advisor (SRA) is a Casual/Restricted, (meaning Student Assistant), part-time staff member appointment within Student Housing and Dining Services. The SRA position is one that requires a great deal of commitment, responsibility, communication and interaction with the professional staff, student staff, and students. Under the supervision of the professional staff (Residential Education Coordinators, Resident Directors and Conduct Coordinators), the SRA serves in the following capacity: Supervising student staff Staff team development and support Providing on-site assistance with facility and some conduct situations Higher level of administrative responsibilities, such as preparing for and conducting meetings, reading, reviewing and submitting weekly reports Qualifications Full-time (minimum 12 units/quarter) undergraduate student with a minimum 2.7 UC cumulative grade point average during the time of application and throughout the entire period of employment. All Senior Resident Advisors are required to meet minimum progress guidelines as set by the university. Must have at least one year of live-in residence hall experience as a Resident Advisor. From the time of offer, must be in good academic and conduct standing with the University, Student Housing & Dining Services and Student Support & Judicial Affairs. Any future violations may result in withdrawal of offer and/or termination of employment. Meets expectations and exceptional performance evaluations from current supervisor. Motivation and desire to continue in the RA position at an exceptional performance level. Must exhibit strong leadership skills and role modeling behaviors. Terms of Employment Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, which includes criminal history. If you already have a successfully completed background check on file, then you will not need to complete another. At the time of application, candidate must be eligible to work in the United States for the duration of the Terms of Employment. DACAmented students encouraged to apply. Mandatory participation in scheduled weekly staff meetings on Wednesdays from 6:20 PM to 7:50 PM is required; priority registration is provided so that each staff member is able to keep the meeting time available. You must be able to keep the scheduled meeting time free in order to serve in this position. Primary work hours for this position are weekdays and some on-call weekends. Candidates will also be asked to work official university events at varying times. Two weekends or more per quarter away with supervisory approval are permitted. Due to the hours spent in the residence halls, Resident Advisors are not permitted to take more than 16.0 units per quarter without prior approval from an Assistant Director. Must participate in the Spring Quarter 2018 SRA development group. Actively participate in on-going staff development and training. Live-in appointment to cover the time period from August 17, 2018 to June 19, Enrollment in summer session II is prohibited due to its conflict with the program. Must reside in assigned space to respond to situations as needed. Placements may change at any time, requiring one or more moves during the period of employment. Must regularly check university account at least once a day and must provide a contact number with voic for occasional work use. Assist with the opening and closing of halls at the beginning and end of each quarter and provide hall coverage over vacations. Opportunities to work during breaks will be available. SRAs are not permitted to participate in intercollegiate sports or hold Peer Academic Advisor positions. Rushing and/or pledging a sorority or fraternity will not be permitted during the Fall Quarter. All commitments outside of the RA position (employment, club/organization involvement, internship, etc.) must have the written pre-approval of the professional staff. Remuneration: In-hall single occupancy apartment or one double occupancy room. All SRAs will receive a 7-day unlimited dining plan. A monthly stipend of $200 per bi-weekly pay period.
4 Position Responsibilities The following outlines the responsibilities that a Senior Resident Advisor (SRA) is required to perform as a staff member: A. Staff Team Development 1. Promotes cooperation, fairness and equity. 2. Demonstrates adequate understanding of the complexity of elements important to staff. 3. Meets regularly with the RAs as a staff and also individually to share information, discuss community and hall concerns, provide and accept feedback regarding job performance, and develop job-related skills. 4. Develops connections and relationships between staff members. 5. Facilitates a welcoming team environment. B. Staff Support 1. Holds and posts office hours for the support of the staff. 2. Visibly role-models academic success skills, including time management. 3. Demonstrates and actively encourages RAs to participate in academic resources available to them on campus. 4. Serves as a staff resource 5. Demonstrates the ability and sound judgement in using university resources in an open and effective manner 6. Appropriately understands confidentiality and adheres to policies and procedures regarding student information C. On-Call Responsibility 1. Communicates all counseling and crisis situations to the area professional staff and Coordinator on-call. 2. Regularly participates in an on-call rotation for certain areas or the entire residence hall system, totaling up to 8 weeks per year. 3. Assists students in handling crisis situations and solving problems. Refers students to appropriate resources and professional staff when necessary. 4. The position may require the ability to lift up to 40 pounds, bend, stoop or climb stairs. Applicants must be able to conduct rounds, respond to emergencies in the residence halls, and perform other similar tasks as assigned. Rounds occur up to five times a night and may take up to minutes at a time, including conducting rounds both inside and outside the residence hall buildings. Applicants could potentially conduct rounds within certain residence halls using flights of stairs instead of elevators. In the case of an elevator malfunction, the applicant or one of their staff members may need to use the stairs. D. Supervision and Leadership 1. Under the direction of the professional staff, assists with the supervision of the RA staff. This requires the SRA to be the liaison between the professional staff and the RAs. 2. Assesses RA staff on a regular basis and, under the direction of the professional staff, takes corrective action when necessary. 3. Demonstrates a level of flexibility and positivity that contributes to team-building. 4. Demonstrates a willingness to give and receive job performance-based feedback. 5. Role models appreciation of differences while fostering an inclusive environment. Assists RAs and students in developing an understanding of diverse cultures and lifestyles. 6. Follows all guidelines and policies set forth by the department and university and role models respectful community-based behaviors. 7. Actively engages and is consistently prepared for all meetings (i.e., staff, 1:1 s in-services, etc.) and specialty assignments if applicable. 8. Activity participates in REO Trainings (Fall Training, Diversity In-Services, etc.). 9. Demonstrates strong decision-making skills (gets input, asks advice, weighs options, etc.). 10. Actively participates on the professional/sra team by solving problems and anticipating the consequences of actions 11. Establishes relationships with the professional staff (Residential Education Coordinators, Resident Directors and Conduct Coordinators). E. Administrative Responsibilities 1. Responds to s and phone calls within 24 hours. 2. Assists in implementing the daily business operations and services of the hall (e.g., check-in/check-out, occupancy checks, facilities checks, weekly administrative reports and paperwork, hall openings and closings, area on-call rounds). 3. Offers input regarding hall policies and services to the area professional staff 4. Participates in one-on-one and area meetings with the professional staff. 5. Assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the professional staff.
