2 ABOUT ABOUT LIV Training Livingston Institute of Vocational Training ( LIV Training ) Phone: Head Office: Level 29, Forrest Centre, 221 St Georges Tce, Perth WA 6000 Mail: PO Box 8198, SOUTH PERTH, WA 6951 Fax: admin@livtraining.edu.au Academic appeals & grievances Learners who are dissatisfied with academic decisions and procedures or who have any issues that directly relate to the successful completion of their course/program should discuss the matter in the first instance with their assessor. Should you be dissatisfied with the decision of your assessor, you have the right to appeal to the Chief Executive Officer ( CEO ). This appeal should be in writing addressed and to the CEO within seven days of the initial decision. For more information about the academic appeals process, or to arrange an appointment with the CEO, contact your relevant course coordinator. Access, equity and diversity LIV Training is committed to equality for everyone. We will ensure you have easy access to information on courses/programs, services available and enrolment procedures. Staff will support and assist you throughout your studies and referral is available to a number of external specialist centres. For details of what referrals are available contact the course supervisor or director. Language, Literacy, and Numeracy Requirements All courses require a minimum level of ability to speak and read the English language, a minimum level of English, especially for people for whom English is a second language has been set at IELTS 6. IELTS is the International English Language Testing System and there are testing centres across Australia and in most countries around the world. A bridging course may be advisable for learners whose level of English is insufficient for the course. Bridging courses are offered by a number of registered English Language Schools and TAFE. Please contact LIV TRAINING for more information on the LLN requirements for your intended course of study. Basic Language, Literacy and Numeracy support is given to learners as required by individual tutors and Course Coordinators. In particular, where a learning difficulty is believed to exist for a learner and requires remedial work beyond the expertise of the tutor, referral is available to a Student Handbook Page 1 Version 3
3 number of external specialist centres. For details of what referrals are available contact the course supervisor or director. Assessment What is Competency Based Assessment? Competency Based Assessment is the process of collecting evidence and making judgements on whether competence has been achieved. This confirms that an individual can perform to the standard expected in the workplace as expressed in the relevant endorsed industry/ enterprise competency standards (or outcomes of accredited courses if there are no competency standards for an industry). The Competency Based Assessment process will be conducted in an open, transparent and accountable manner, emphasising the aspects of equality for all. Evidence gathering LIV Training Academic staff have selected suitable methods to ensure sufficient evidence can be gathered on how you perform a task or skill against the specified criteria. Some assessment methods are best suited for assessing practical skills and others are better for assessing theory or underpinning knowledge. Readiness When commencing study, your trainer will provide you with an overview of planned assessment and negotiate timeframes and requirements with you to ensure your readiness to undertake assessment. Assessments should be submitted or completed by the specified time for a result to be recorded, however if necessary, extensions of assessment timeframes will be negotiated and/or considered in specific or exceptional circumstances. Feedback Feedback on assessment is available to all learners via their assessors. Authentication of Evidence All assessment materials submitted to LIV TRAINING must be your own work. To ensure authenticity of assessment materials submitted LIV TRAINING verifies evidence in the following ways: participant confirmation and declaration workplace supervisor verification on a random basis additional verbal questions given to participants on a random basis comparison of work style and quality for all work undertaken Student Handbook Page 2 Version 3
4 Attendance and punctuality Arriving at all training sessions is important for you, your trainer and other learners, as being late disrupts the learning environment. You are required to participate in all learning activities. Many courses/ programs have classroom activities as part of the assessment criteria. Change of details Please advise the Institute of any changes to your address, , or phone number, so that you are able to be contacted. Feedback and complaints LIV Training has policies and procedures in place for addressing client complaints and receiving feedback. At LIV Training we take any suggestion, complaint or grievance very seriously and all staff will work to ensure that your comments are acted upon quickly and fairly. During your study at LIV Training you will have several opportunities to provide feedback about your experience. Feedback forms can also be submitted at any time and are available by request from your course coordinator. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) An application for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) can be made if you have already attained the necessary skills required for your program elsewhere (eg. work, other study, skills and knowledge etc). You will be required to provide documentation to support your application. LIV Training recognises Australian Qualifications Training Framework (AQTF) qualifications and statements of attainment issued by other institutes or registered training providers within Australia. Results At the successful completion of your course/ program, your results and qualification will be sent to you in the mail. If you do not complete your course/program, you may receive a Statement of Attainment. Disability services If you have a disability please make your needs known so we can help plan for your learning support. Please advise us of your disability at the time of your enrolment.
