9 EURAMET Mission Our mission is to: Develop and disseminate an appropriate, integrated and cost effective measurement infrastructure for Europe taking into account the needs of end users in industry, business and Government Ensure that the European measurement infrastructure is internationally competitive and recognised, and is based on robust and high quality science and R&D Support members in meeting their own national requirements through collaboration and a balanced European measurement infrastructure

11 Deliver High Added Value to Members and Associates Our Goal is to: Understand the true needs and visions of members and have an inclusive approach to all member needs To support all members and associates in achieving their own objectives taking into account existing diversity but balanced with overall European needs Increase scope for co-operation and sharing of resources/facilities for mutual benefit and convergent development Stimulate the development of a stable national framework for metrology by appropriate involvement of key metrology players as well as supporting metrology excellence as a driving force

17 Mid-term review by independent panel (2012) EMRP is a well-managed and progressively more and more integrated European programme. It has transformed a specialised and fragmented community into a successful public-public partnership confirming the advantages of the European Research Area. 17

22 Development of Guidance Documents This document has been prepared by EURAMET as a guide to the operation of National Metrology Institutes (NMIs). It aims to provide information for the top level management of a NMI and those persons who are responsible in the respective ministry for the national metrological infrastructure. Depending on the size of a country and the specific metrological needs of industry, society and the scientific community, the scope of a NMI will vary, but key elements for the structure and the operation can be identified. The information contained in this guide reflects the experience of larger and smaller European NMIs obtained over recent years and reflects the growing need for European and international cooperation.

25 Supporting NMIs in Emerging Economies A joint EURAMET WELMEC Focus Group has been established recently. The objective is to Facilitate National Metrology Infrastructure Development in emerging economies and to assist EURAMET/ WELMEC members and associates to integrate into their structures
