4 Executive Summary For the benefit of our business partners, the Drake Research Centre created a survey to better understand trends in human capital attraction, retention and development. Sixty percent (60%) of all respondents feel that their HR activities are either Extremely or Very closely aligned to business growth and outcome. On average, respondents feel that their talent processes are Somewhat Integrated with each other. Less than half (44%) of organizations feel they have a comprehensive approach for staff development. Of respondents organizations, 44% Always or Most of the Time identify and groom future and potential leaders. Half of organizations use Continuous Leadership training while 48% use Mentor Programs. About 43% of respondents feel their organizations have either a Very Strong or Strong commitment to employee development. More than half (62%) of organizations encourage participation in informal training and development opportunities Always or Most of the Time. However, The majority (62%) of organizations do not have a methodology/scoring system in place to measure top performers success and over half (63%) of organizations do not have a Mentorship program. The majority (68%) of organizations have a Performance Management System, while 53% have a Human Resource Management System. Of the organizations that do not have a Talent Management System, 36% of them are considering one. The majority of these organizations (82%) will not purchase one for over 12 months. Overall, organizations have employee retention challenges some of the time. Slightly more than half (55%) of organizations have retention strategies for top performers. Of these organizations, over half feel these strategies have been Extremely or Very Effective. On average, respondents believe that 13.6% of top performers are looking for another job outside of their organization. Data was collected in an online survey with 123 Senior HR and C-suite professionals over a 6 week period (June-July, 2011). The margin of error is +/-9% at a 95% confidence level. 4
