3 Declaration of Support for the WLCS As an organizational member of the Witsuwit en Language and Culture Society, the Witsuwit en language and culture by: commits to supporting the revitalization of Supporting the purposes of the society as outlined in the WLCS s constitution Supporting the mission, vision, and goals of the society Committing to building positive relationships and working together as an ally of the society. Ensuring our involvement in the community does not create harm to the WLCS specifically or Witsuwit en Language and Culture generally. Ensuring our involvement in the society strengthens and benefits Witsuwit en language, culture, and peoples. Committing to solve any disputes or grievances with the society in a proactive manner, including open and respectful dialogue. Honouring and upholding Witsuwit en intellectual property rights, ownership of knowledge, and cultural protocols around the use and distribution of cultural resources. Ensuring conflicts of interests are avoided and any perceived or identified conflicts of interests are disclosed immediately. Date
4 Membership Information All descendants of the 13 houses and 5 clans of the Witsuwit en Nation have a right to our language and culture regardless of residency; band affiliation; blood quantum; or other affiliation. The work of the Society is to enhance language and culture for the betterment of all Witsuwit en. To become an active member of the organization and stay up-to-date on recent projects, decisions, and be a voting member at our Annual General Meetings, please consider becoming a member of the Authority. There are three types of membership: Levels of Membership 1) Witsuwit en General Membership All Witsuwit en descendants are eligible for general membership. Identified by one of the following levels of language champion: Level One: Language Keeper - You are fluent in our language and committed to teaching others. Your knowledge is recognized as similar to a PhD in Witsuwit en Language. Level Two: Intermediate Fluency - You can now understand other speakers and make few grammatical errors when speaking in full sentences. You are also practicing our c idede and songs. Level Three: Speech Production Learner - You can understand a fair bit of what people are saying and can produce simple sentences. You make grammar and pronunciation errors and frequently misunderstand jokes, but understand this is part of the process. Level Four: Early Production Learner - You can understand a few words here and there and can produce one or two word responses and short phrases. Level Five: Pre-production Learner - You have a desire to learn, but have not yet started on your language journey. You are learning the methods and ways to learn our language and why it is important. Benefits of becoming a General Member: -Have your progress monitored and encouraged as you seek to become a language keeper for our nation. Be identified for certain opportunities that focus on your learning level. -Receive s, newsletters, and access to the members only page of the website. -Be given first priority for registration for society events, programs and activities. -An invitation to our Annual General Meetings and receive our Annual Reports. -May run for a director position in general elections. -Receive one vote/person over the age of majority at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Membership Fee: FREE
5 2) Sustaining Individual Membership All Witsuwit en descendants are eligible to become a sustaining member. The sustaining member enjoys the benefits of general membership plus, being recognized as a sustaining member of the organization on our website and in our Annual Report to demonstrate your financial support of the society. Benefits of becoming a Sustaining Member: -Receive the benefits of General Membership plus, -Contribute to fulfilling the goals and purposes of the Society -Receive a 10%, 15% or 20% discount on any publications, products, conferences or events offered by the Society. -Receive public recognition for your support of the Society Membership Fee: Blueberry Individual Member: $50/year (10% discount) Soapberry Individual Member: $100/year (15% discount) Huckleberry Individual Member: $250/year (20% discount) 3) Sustaining Organization Membership Witsuwit en or non-witsuwit en Organizations may apply to become a sustaining member of the Society. Sustaining organizations are committed to the enhancement of Witsuwit en language and culture and support the work of the society. Acceptance as an organizational member will be determined by consensus of the board of directors who will review the application and assess any conflicts of interest or potential for doing harm to Witsuwit en Language or Culture. If the organization takes on activities throughout the duration of their membership that is in a conflict/creates harm, their membership will be revoked without refund. Please note that individuals from organizations may also qualify for Individual membership as well. Benefits of becoming a Sustaining Organization: -Receive the benefits of a Sustaining Individual Membership plus, -Have your organizations logo, publicly displayed and be able to advertise your affiliation with the WLCS. Membership Fee: Blueberry Individual Member: $500/year (10% discount; small logo) Soapberry Individual Member: $1000/year (15% discount; medium logo) Huckleberry Individual Member: $1500/year (20% discount; large logo)
