1 Head of Apprenticeships and Traineeships Job Description Reporting Relationships Responsible to: Vice Principal Job Purpose Lead, manage and successfully deliver apprenticeship and traineeship provision across the college. Contribute to the planning and operational management across the college. Have full leadership and management for this job role, including all quality processes, performance manage staff towards excellence and providing an excellent student experience leading to high success rates across all levels. Manage resources including budgets, timetabling and staff utilisation. Lead on curriculum development across associated areas. Duties and Responsibilities To be accountable for the development and performance levels of apprenticeship / traineeship in the college and to report to SLT and governors on these To develop and grow the College s apprenticeship portfolio and become the major provider of apprenticeships/traineeships in the surrounding areas To work with others to ensure the timely registration of Apprentices and all related administration processes to ensure compliance. Ensure that the assessment arrangements are in place to maximise retention and achievement by close performance management To coordinate and increase apprenticeship/traineeship provision across the college by working collaboratively with Heads of School, Curriculum Managers and the Enterprise Team. Lead on the development of new apprenticeship/traineeship frameworks at all levels. Lead on the development of apprenticeship/traineeship and seek opportunities with employers to develop a culture of continuous improvement and ensure that learner success rates and experiences are of the highest possible standard

2 To coordinate and develop college relationships by acting as the college lead in managing relations with external agencies regarding apprenticeship/traineeship provision. To provide leadership to the teams delivering apprenticeship/traineeship support and Functional Skills delivery. To develop relationships with employers. Specific duties Chair the Apprenticeship/Traineeship Steering Group To produce the college s apprenticeship/traineeship strategy and action plan and monitor these Report on the workload and deployment of Assessors to ensure efficiency through case loading. To be responsible for the standardisation of delivered curriculum within the Apprenticeship arena including administrative practices From the budgets set by the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) help set recruitment targets for the team and monitor these against the SFA budgets Monitor performance of the Work Based Learning Management team and individuals against agreed recruitment, retention, success, income and case loading targets for the team. Report regularly on activity against target, progress by learners and general performance of the team to the Assistant Principal Enterprise and Vice Principal Teaching, Learning and Success Ensure comprehensive adherence to administration and contract compliance for the efficient running of apprenticeship/traineeship so that clean audits are achieved. To be an active member of TeLSaD and work with Heads of School and faculties to ensure delivery of the apprenticeship programme meets framework requirements. Quality assure the provision through observations of training sessions, reviews, sign up, etc, portfolio checks, feedback reports from employers and learners, appraisal and work with the Head of Quality to co-ordinate and monitor activity for IV/EV processes including standardisation of WBL documentation. Be responsible for the Self Assessment Report and the Quality Improvement Plan within the area of Apprenticeships and Traineeships. To manage regular update activity through team/unit discussion/contribution to ensure continued improvement. Unauthorised action being taken, in accordance with the College s disciplinary procedure, may lead to dismissal. The post holder s attention is also drawn to the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Computer Misuse Act Safeguarding The College is committed to the safeguarding of all its learners, staff and visitors and provides a safe physical environment. The College ensures safeguarding legislation and guidance are adhered to and considered when developing and revising policies and procedures. The College has policies and procedures in place to deal effectively with child protection and safeguarding issues as well as recording and monitoring processes. It is a condition of employment that all staff are trained to an appropriate level to their safeguarding responsibilities.

4 Havering College of Further and Higher Education Head of Apprenticeships and Traineeships Person Specification Requirements Essential Educational attainment A relevant degree or equivalent qualification Recognised Level 4 teaching qualification such as Certificate in Education or PGCE equivalent Knowledge, Skills and Aptitudes required Demonstrate ability to lead, manage and motivate staff Knowledge and understanding of challenges and opportunities in relation to Apprenticeships and Traineeships Effective ICT and organisational skills Good interpersonal skills, and particular ability to liaise and communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences both internal and external the College Demonstrate professionalism, credibility and authority in managing staff with a determination and resolve to achieve targeted outcomes both through a supportive approach and performance management when required Demonstrable sound understanding of the implications of government initiatives and current issues within the area Ability to prioritise objectives and plan work within a complex educational environment and manage an area in delivering high quality performance, including the ability to delegate effectively Ability to ensure the Safeguarding of all learners in the service Experience required Proven experience in leading, managing, motivating and building successful teams Experience of devising activity based strategies for the successful completion of creative learner centred delivery. Experience in managing and promoting a culture of high performance Experience of leading a team and establishing effective working relationships at all levels and with external agencies to ensure equality of opportunity and the promotion of access, attainment and progression of all learners Experience of implementing and managing various apprenticeship frameworks Experience of managing change, engaging others positively in the process with a focus on impact and successful outcomes for students Experience of managing student assessment and feedback processes to support learners to achieve

6 Havering College of Further and Higher Education Head of Apprenticeships and Traineeships Conditions of Service Contract: Permanent Annual Leave: Leave entitlement for a full time member of staff is 35 days per annum, plus 5 efficiency days to be used at Christmas at the discretion of the Principal. Standard public holidays are in addition to this. The leave year runs from 1 st September to 31 st August. (Entitlements are adjusted proportionately for part time roles). Hours of Employment: Salary: Teaching Qualification: Probationary Period: Location: Smoking: Termination: Medical Report: DBS Check: References: Appointment subject to: Pension: Representation: Car Allowances: Additional Employment: 36 hours per week, 52 weeks per year, annualised hours. 50,000-55,000 per annum. Salaries are paid monthly on the last working day of the month. You will be required to have an account with a bank or building society, which can accept a direct credit transfer. If candidates do not currently hold a teaching or assessors qualification, they must undertake relevant training as a condition of appointment. 9 months. Staff are required to work on any site as required. A No Smoking Policy is in operation throughout the College. 1 month s written notice on either side during probationary period, 3 months written notice on either side after confirmation of appointment. Upon appointment, you will be required to complete a Medical Questionnaire and may be required to undergo a medical examination. An enhanced DBS check is required for all posts within the College before you start work. The appointment is subject to two references, which are satisfactory to us. The conditions of service as recommended by the Association of Colleges as adopted by the College s Governing Body. A pension scheme is in operation through the Teachers Pension Scheme, but persons appointed may make their own arrangements. The contribution rate is 6.4% of your Gross salary deducted on a monthly basis. The College recognises UNISON & UCU as the appropriate Trade Unions for raising matters of staff concern. A staff travel and subsistence policy is in operation at the College and staff travelling between sites and on College business can claim a mileage rate for using their car. The College does not operate a car loan scheme. Staff are not allowed to engage as an employee, consultant, partner, proprietor or director in any other business without the prior written consent of the Principal.
