1 Board Member Role Description Neyland CIC is a new community organisation set up to develop plans to build a new Community and Sports Centre in Neyland; to become a hub for existing and new community activities and a body which re-invests it s profit into the community. It aims to be a dynamic commercial force to maintain the provision but also to support the wide network of third sector organisations in and around the town of Neyland. As this is a new organisation there will be two aspects to the role of Board Member with initial responsibilities and then ongoing responsibilities. We are looking for three new Board Members to join the existing two with specific expertise in the following areas: Property development and planning Construction project management Community engagement and communication Strategic planning Financial management and reporting Initial responsibilities: To support the development of the vision and strategic direction for the organisation. To support the development of a new Community & Sports Centre (facility) including the drawing up of plans, application for planning permissions etc. To engage with the community for their input and cooperation. To support the application for funding and fundraising activities. To ensure that resources are used efficiently and economically. To ensure that any funding and cash balances are managed properly. To monitor and evaluate the development of the organisation on a regular basis. Ongoing responsibilities: To develop the management options for the facility. To recruit suitable management staff/organisation to run the facility. To monitor and evaluate the work of the management staff/organisation on a regular basis. This will include receiving reports from the staff/organisation and feedback from members. To ensure the facility and equipment are properly looked after. To ensure the facility and equipment are properly insured against all reasonable liabilities.

2 General responsibilities: To work with the other Board members to form an effective governing body for the organisation. To attend meetings and to read papers in advance of meetings To attend sub-committee meetings as appropriate. To participate in other tasks as arise from time to time, such as interviewing new staff/board members, helping with community fundraising and communication activities. To keep informed about the activities of the organisation and wider issues, which affect its work. To ensure that the organisation is effective and gets its work done. Legal duties: To ensure the organisation pursues its objects as set out in the constitution. To have read and understood the constitution. To act at all times in the interests of the organisation and its beneficiaries. To understand the legal responsibilities of the Board. To make sure that the organisation acts within the law: as an employer, in respect of equal opportunities, meeting health and safety requirements, as a company and so on. To ensure that all money and assets are prudently managed and used in pursuit of the objects of the organisation. To make sure that money is spent for the purposes for which it was given. To ensure that the organisation accounts for its activities to its funders, its members, the local community and others as required. To work jointly with the other Board members. To ensure that the organisation manages its affairs reasonably and properly. To work in the interests of the facility, and not for personal gain. To ensure the Board takes proper professional advice on matters in which is does not have competence.

A willingness to be available to other Board members and the management staff/organisation, for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis.
