1 JOB DESCRIPTION OUTLINE Job Title: Responsible to: Hours per week: Tutor/Programme Manager in Early Years Head of Learning and Standards 18 hours (0.5FTE) Main Purpose of the Role 1. The postholder will have the responsibility for delivering a range of Early Years modules on the BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies programme and other programmes within the College. 2. The post-holder will also be required to programme manage the BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies programme. 3. The post holder will be a member of a number of staff teams who are responsible for quality teaching and learning in the delivery of courses and in supporting the raising of standards in accordance with the Corporate Aims and Strategic Objectives of the College. Principal Accountabilities 1. Develop, deliver and assess programme units for a range of programmes. 2. Programme management responsibility for a programme(s) of study. 3. Responsible for a programme(s) of study including the development of Schemes of Work and Lesson Plans. 4. Support learners to access appropriate learning programmes using a range of diagnostic tools and assessment methods. 5. Establish precise learning objectives, content and clear learning outcomes for all teaching undertaken. 6. Develop appropriate learning styles and delivery methods which meet the needs of learners. 7. Engage in the analysis of data and target setting to raise standards of retention and achievement.

2 8. Act as a personal tutor and support students in managing their own learning. 9. Comply with and support the College s Quality Improvement and Assurance processes and Management Information Systems as they evolve. 10. Fulfil validating and awarding body requirements, including Internal Verification and the establishment of effective recording and tracking mechanisms. 11. Comply with and support the College s Performance Management processes undertaking Staff Development as required. 12. Complete and keep a record of 30hrs Continuous Professional Development (pro rata to a minimum of 6 hrs) annually. 13. Attend team meetings both within the Faculty and across the College. 14. Carry out the administration for the above with the support of the College business support staff. 15. Promote and support the development of the College s Equal Opportunities Policy and ensure compliance in all aspects of the Faculty s function. 16. Ensure compliance with relevant Health and Safety requirements. 17. Work with managers and employees to support the developing culture of the learning organisation and facilitate cultural change. 18. Such other duties as may be reasonably expected of the post holder. This list is not exhaustive and is only an indication of responsibilities. General 1. Lead, promote and support the development of the College s Equality and Diversity policies, procedures and practices as they relate to students/staff. 2. Develop effective contact, liaison and working relationships with colleagues in the College and other bodies as appropriate. 3. Support the development of the learning organisation and facilitate cultural change. 4. To engage in professional development and networking to ensure that professional and strategic contributions are up-to-date. 5. Complying with the College Health and Safety Policy and all relevant health and safety requirements.

3 6. Participating actively in the performance management scheme, agreeing objectives, attending reviews and undertaking staff development as required 7. All employees are expected to be fully committed to policies and processes on equality, diversity and safeguarding. 8. Such other duties as may be reasonably expected of the post holder. Training Identified for the Post 1. To undertake the College s Induction Programme, including Safeguarding Training 2. In-house training on College systems 3. A programme of regular CPD activities on Inset Days and at other times. As the College is a multi-campus site, flexibility and willingness to work across all sites is required. This job description reflects the post, as at June 2015 but may be amended from time to time following consultation with the post holder. 4 PERSONAL SPECIFICATION: Tutor in Early Years Experience and qualifications Essential Relevant teaching experience. Experience of managing a programme of study. Experience of acting as a personal tutor. An Honours Degree in Primary Education (QTS) or an Early Childhood Studies Honours Degree and a PGCE A Masters Degree Desirable An Assessor s award Knowledge Skills Personal Qualities Sound knowledge of Health & Safety regulations within the industry. Sound knowledge of a range of subjects relevant to the programme portfolio. Good understanding of students and how they learn Good organisation skills. Ability to effectively plan, manage, monitor and take a proactive action. Ability to act on own initiative and to ensure deadlines are met. Team player, ability to work with others and also to work independently. Flexible approach to education and training and the ability to adapt quickly to new initiatives. Ability to work effectively as a member of Faculty and cross-college teams and establish credible positive relationships. 1. Articulate and able to communicate professionally with colleagues at all levels, both internally and externally.

5 2. Ability to work as part of a team and support colleagues. 3. Ability to cope with a demanding workload. 4. Prepared to take and implement decisions and accept responsibility for own actions.
