1 Electrotechnical Services Level: 3 SET3/001 Ensure Safe Site Working Candidate Name Assessment Route Summary This assessment route covers the competencies you need if you are responsible for ensuring safe site working. You will be required to ensure that the site is safe for work to start by carrying out a risk assessment where the work will take place, and monitor the site s safety during and on completion of the work on electrotechnical systems and equipment. You will also be required to ensure the site is left in a tidy and safe condition on completion of the work. 2 Ensure Safe Site Working Performance to be assessed and evidenced: 1. Carry out an assessment of risks of the worksite taking due regard of the method statement and in accordance with health and safety regulations and other relevant legislation 2. 4 Electrotechnical Services Level: 3 SET3/002 Provide Technical and Functional Information Candidate Name Assessment Route Summary This assessment route covers the competencies you need if you are required to pass on technical or functional information relating to installations of structured cabling systems. You will be required to supply technical and functional information accurately on appropriate occasions or at handover. You need to be able to identify who should receive such information and the level required by the relevant person for safe operation and maintenance purposes. 5 Provide Technical and Functional Information Performance to be assessed and evidenced: 1. 7 Electrotechnical Services Level: 3 SET3/003 Terminate Test and Rectify Structured Copper Cabling Systems Candidate Name Assessment Route Summary This assessment route covers the competencies you need if you are involved in terminating, testing and rectifying faults on copper cables in internal structured cable networks. You will be required to terminate structured cables with copper conductors on appropriate termination equipment, and confirm the integrity of the terminated links through visual inspection and continuity tests. You will also need to understand and apply the relevant aspects of the risk assessment and the method statement for all the work you carry out. Importantly this includes knowing how to check a circuit is not live and understand the principles of isolation, which can only be undertaken by a competent person. 8 Terminate Test and Rectify Structured Copper Cabling Systems Performance to be assessed and evidenced: 1. Prepare cables and conductors in accordance with site procedures and manufacturers instructions Assess two by work performed: multi pair cable (1308) Category 3 Category 5 (5/5e) Category 6 Category 7 2. Open and close termination enclosures in accordance with site procedures and manufacturers instructions 3. Use appropriate tools and equipment safely in accordance with site procedures and manufacturers instructions 4. Terminate conductors in the right sequence and in accordance with the installation plan and relevant specifications 5. You will need to take sensible action to put things right where you identify hazards in your work location. 11 Maintain a Healthy and Safe Working Environment Performance to be assessed and evidenced: 1. 13 Electrotechnical Services Level: 3 SET3/005 Plan Prepare and Install Structured Cabling Systems Candidate Name Assessment Route Summary This assessment route covers the competencies you need if you plan, prepare and install structured cabling systems. You will be planning, preparing and installing the right cables, closures, pathways and equipment for the work. You will be required to undertake the planning and preparation activities prior to the installation process and then carry out the necessary procedures for the installation to take place safely and in accordance with current Standards (primary). You will also need to be capable of installing up to 230v flexible cables, plug tops and wiring from flex/fused outlets to structured cabling equipment. You will also be required to understand and apply the relevant aspects of the risk assessment and the method statement for all the work you carry out. Importantly this includes knowing how to check a circuit is not live and understanding the principles of isolation which can only be undertaken by a qualified electrician. You will be ensuring that you follow appropriate earthing and bonding principles for locations with structured cabling systems and equipment. You will be required to show you are aware of the potential hazards involved with this work and that you can carry out the work safely and utilise the right materials and instruments. You will also be required to inspect and test the earthing systems to ensure they have been carried out in accordance with the current Standards (primary). You will need to record the test results accurately and note those that need rectification and then repeat the tests. You will be required, as part of the final inspection procedures to check the cable separations, earthing and bonding procedures, labelling and fire-stopping. You will be required to fit connectors to fibre end faces, protect terminated fibres and confirm their integrity through visual inspection and continuity tests. 27 Connectorise Optical Fibre for Structured Cabling Systems Performance to be assessed and evidenced: 1. Prepare cables and fibres in accordance with connector manufacturer s instructions and site specifications and manufacturers instructions 2. Prepare and connectorise fibres in compliance with current Standards (primary) 3. Ensure the type of connector you select complies with the installation plan, the type of fibre, and its application 4. Ensure the tools, materials and chemicals used for preparing and connecting fibres are used safely in accordance with site specifications and manufacturer s instructions 5.
