1 2017 Health and Safety Workshop Programme Simpson Grierson s health and safety workshop series run in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Hamilton in the first half of this year, was an overwhelming success. We are running the series again in Auckland in October and November. The workshops will be led by Terry Johnson, Director Health and Safety Advisory Services. The sessions are aimed at H&S professionals, and those with H&S responsibilities, including senior operations managers and HR professionals. They will give participants the knowledge and skills they need to keep their organisations safe through: having robust systems and processes in place creating a safety-focused culture using H&S engagement and participation to improve H&S communication knowing what motivates the right (and wrong) behaviours in your people and how leadership affects this. Workshop 1: Getting the basics right H&S framework approach H&S planning Monitoring and measuring Critical risk Working with Worksafe (presented by a lawyer) Workshop 2: Developing good practices Investigation techniques How to manage injuries Participation and engagement - what does good look like and how do you get there Workshop 3: Assessing your culture for H&S and driving the right behaviours in your organisation What is organisation culture and how you assess it How to drive the right behaviours in your organisation to get the right outcomes More details are provided on the following page. 2 Workshop 1: Getting the basics right At this workshop you will learn the key elements of H&S that support your obligations and that of your officers under the HSWA. We will take the pieces of the Act that apply and show practical solutions that support you meeting your obligations. What does good monthly reporting look like? How do I develop an H&S plan that supports our board in their obligations? What systems do I really need to have to support my H&S activity? How do I move from a focus on managing all hazards to a focus managing my significant risks? And how do I manage my most significant or critical risks? The workshop will answer these questions, and support and validate the work you may have underway in this area. We will also cover what to do if you are visited by a Worksafe Inspector. Many organisations may not have experienced this before. We can help you by covering the legal and practical implications for your business. Workshop 2: Developing good practices Many organisations want to get better at the key practices that underpin H&S. At this workshop we will help you understand how to develop good practices around three key areas of H&S: investigations, injury management and worker participation. These are areas of H&S that can have a huge impact to your overall performance and culture. The way you investigate safety events and deal with injured employees have a big impact on how H&S is viewed in your business. Get these wrong and the level of trust deteriorates. Equally, the engagement and participation of your people only comes from trust being developed - and good engagement and participation goes way beyond just having committees. We will help you learn the key principles and processes of these three practices so you can check your own processes and adjust them as necessary. Workshop 3: Assessing your culture for H&S and driving the right behaviours in your organisation Everyone talks about culture, and its influence on H&S. If you want to improve H&S performance and understanding within your business or organisation, you first have to decide what it is you are going after. In this workshop we will discuss organisational culture and how it effects H&S. We will cover what influences the behaviours within a business and how to drive the right behaviours to ensure we get the outcomes we are looking for. We explore the role of leadership at all levels and its effect on behaviour and culture, along with effective tools and techniques. WORKSHOP DETAILS TIME 10.30am pm for each session. COST $450 plus GST for one workshop $800 plus GST for two workshops, or $1,150 plus GST for all three workshops. REFRESHMENTS Morning tea and light lunch provided. Please advise any dietary requirements. Each workshop is eligible for 4 CPD hours under the New Zealand Law Society CPD Rules. evidence will be sent to you after each workshop, if required. Prior to joining Simpson Grierson, Terry worked at Fonterra where his roles included leading an operational safety team of over 55 professionals, and leading the team providing global health and safety framework and assurance processes.
