2 Tyndale Community School Tyndale Community School in the East Oxford area is a state funded primary school serving local families. It opened its doors as part of the Chapel Street family of schools in September 2013 and is a two-form entry school teaching from Reception to Y3. Operating within Chapel St s broad and inclusive Christian ethos of grace, love and fellowship and working in partnership with Oxfordshire Community Church, Tyndale is a child-centered, family-focused, and community-minded school serving children and families of all faiths and no faith. The Wrap Around Care Assistant will play a key role in enabling the school to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all pupils to achieve their best. 3 Wrap Around Care Assistant We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Wrap Around Care Assistant to join our dedicated team of staff and leaders who are passionate about making a difference. We will consider applicants with an interest in child development and this role would be suitable for someone who is considering pursuing a career in teaching. The Wrap Around Care Assistant will have responsibility for assisting the Wrap Around Care Manager with the overall running of the club to include planning, preparing and delivering high quality play opportunities ensuring the safety and well-being of all children that attend. 4 Job Description Wrap Around Care Assistant Responsible to: Wrap Around Care Manager Purpose and context Be part of the Wrap Around Care Support team working under the direction of the Manager and leadership team to assist with the day to day activities of the club whilst providing quality play care within the framework of the club s policies and procedures. Principal Accountabilities Working under guidance to Support the Manager in providing a varied environment, where resources can be accessed appropriately by all children, and activities differentiated to ensure the needs of all children who attend are met. Work closely with the Manager to contribute to the management of pupil behaviour, maintain order and an appropriate working environment, including implementation of the School s behaviour policies. Promote the inclusion of all pupils within the club and ensure that the health, safety, and welfare of pupils is maintained at all times. Support the pupils to develop independence in all aspects of the club. Deal with any immediate problems or emergencies in accordance with the School s policies and procedures. Provide comfort and immediate care in case of minor accidents, and report serious incidents to the appropriate person for action. Facilitating good communication with all members of the organisation, parents, and schools. Participate in training and meetings based in School. Undertake any administrative duties relevant and appropriate to this post. Carry out any other duties that may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the role, responsibilities, and grade of this post. To follow the child protection procedures adopted by the school s safeguarding policy. General Statements Carries out all reasonable duties and responsibilities of the post in accordance with the school s policies and procedures and standing orders. 4
5 Enactment of Health and Safety requirements and initiatives as appropriate. Declares any conflict of interest that may arise before or during employment. Any outside activities, either paid or unpaid, must not in the view of the School conflict with or react detrimentally to the Academy s interest, or in any way weaken public confidence in the conduct of the school s business. Undergoes and meets School conditions for a satisfactory enhanced DBS check. Complies with all equality legislation, policies and procedures and actively promotes ways of eradicating and challenging racism, prejudice and discrimination through the School s policies and procedures. Has due regard for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and follows the established child protection procedures adopted by the School. Being aware of responsibilities under the Data Protection Act for the security, accuracy and relevance of information held and maintained. Treats all information acquired through this employment, both formally and informally, in strict confidence. Ensures high quality support for all pupils. Any other duties of an appropriate level and nature will also be required. To contribute as an effective and collaborative member of the School Team Participates in training to be able to demonstrate competence. Participates in First Aid training as required. Participates in the ongoing development, implementation and monitoring of the service plans. Contributes in meetings and is a supportive member of the School team. (The responsibilities of this role will evolve over time and so the job description will be formally reviewed after 6 months.) 5
6 Person Specification Experience Over the Age of 18 Experience of working with primary aged pupils and knowledge of appropriate play, games and activities. Has experience of promoting pupils spiritual, moral, social, cultural, and emotional development. Ability demonstrate strategies for improving behaviour and sustaining high standards of learning and achievement for pupils Is a role model for pupils by expecting, setting and delivering high standards and commanding credibility through expertise. Skills/Abilities Ability to work calmly under pressure and adapt quickly and effectively to changing circumstances/situations whilst remaining firm and fair Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with children and adults Good organisational skills Ability to understand and carry out instructions Ability to work on own initiative and make decisions Education/Qualifications Good standard of literacy, numeracy & ICT skills An NVQ 2/3 qualification in childcare or similar qualification First Aid at Work & Food Hygiene qualification Knowledge/Understanding An understanding of safeguarding children as it relates to a school Understanding of the varied needs of children and their families Essential Desirable PLEASE NOTE: This post requires a DBS check as there may be periods of unsupervised access to children. An Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references will be required prior to the commencement of employment. 6

Interview process After the closing date, short listing will be conducted by a panel who will match your skills/ experience against the criteria in the person specification. You will be selected for interview entirely on the contents of your application form, so please read the job description and person specification carefully before you complete your application form. 7
8 In addition to candidates ability to perform the duties of the post, the interview will also explore issues relating to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, including: Motivation to work with children and young people Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people Emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours Attitudes to use of authority and maintaining discipline. Conditional offer pre-employment checks Any offer to a successful candidate will be conditional upon: A satisfactory enhanced DBS check Proof of qualifications relevant to post Two satisfactory references Evidence of right to work in the UK, in accordance with the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 A satisfactory childcare disqualification declaration, in accordance with the Disqualification under the Childcare Act 2006 Satisfactory completion of a health assessment Where the successful candidate has worked or been resident overseas in the previous five years, such checks and confirmations as may be required in accordance with statutory guidance.
