3 CAREER READINESS Content Standards for Career Readiness Content Standard 1: will identify their career interests and aptitudes to develop an educational plan which supports personal career goals. Content Standard 2: will utilize and manage resources effectively to produce quality services and products. Content Standard 3: will demonstrate the technological knowledge and skills required for future careers. Content Standard 4: will develop and demonstrate responsible and ethical workplace behaviors. Content Standard 5: will develop effective leadership, interpersonal, and team skills.

4 Content Standard 1: will identify their career interests and aptitudes to develop an educational plan which supports personal career goals. Grade K-4 Identify places that people work and explain what they do; explain how work helps people obtain food, shelter, and clothing; demonstrate an awareness of the importance of academic success to achieve personal success. Grade 5-8 Explore areas of interest and possible career choices; understand the structure and function of business ownership in the United States, New Mexico, and local economies; explain the connection between academic skills and career options by identifying education and training requirements; identify careers of personal interest based on identified aptitudes and interests.

5 CAREER READINESS Content Standard 2: will utilize and manage resources effectively to produce quality services and products. Grade K-4 Set short term goals and complete the goals within an appropriate length of time; demonstrate responsibility in the use of time, space, and materials to complete assignments; demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between goal-setting processes and the allocation of time, money, material, and human resources. Grade 5-8 Identify and prioritize goals relating to school and home; determine the education and training requirements for careers identified as possible areas of interest; prepare a budget, including a revenue and expenditure report, to support a planned school project.

6 Content Standard 3: will demonstrate the technological knowledge and skills required for future careers. Grade K-4 Use age appropriate tools, instruments, and equipment found in the home and classroom; demonstrate basic use of the computer in classroom activities; identify the many uses of technology in our personal lives, society, and the work environment; use common tools, instruments, and equipment to perform hands-on activities to design products to solve problems within the school. Grade 5-8 Describe ways in which tools, instruments, and equipment are used to solve problems, extend human capabilities, and provide for the needs of society; demonstrate basic computer operation skills in a variety of applications to access and organize information; describe ways in which technology has created changes in our personal lives, society, and the world of work; design a class product or process to solve an identified problem and explain the benefits that will result if the product or process is used.

7 CAREER READINESS Content Standard 4: will develop and demonstrate responsible and ethical workplace behaviors. Grade K-4 Define and identify positive behaviors, conduct, and social manners; interact appropriately with other students; apply and demonstrate good study and work habits; demonstrate and comply with rules, regulations, and policies of school and community; demonstrate understanding of the importance of safety in the school and community. Grade 5-8 Demonstrate positive behaviors, conduct, and social manners for school, work, and community; demonstrate goal direction, self-discipline, and task commitment in the completion of assignments; demonstrate an understanding of ethical behavior and its importance in human relationships and society; demonstrate safe work practices and explore safety issues related to the school, community, and workplace.

8 Content Standard 5: will develop effective leadership, interpersonal, and team skills. Grade K-4 Identify differences between individual and group decisions and accomplishments; interact positively with other students; work cooperatively as a team member to achieve identified goals; recognize the importance of and participate in leadership roles. Grade 5-8 Explore the positive and negative implications of team work. recognize that individual differences affect school and workplace behavior; demonstrate team work skills through the demonstration of effort, sharing of ideas and suggestions, resolving conflicts, and handling peer pressure; assume leadership roles in team settings.
