Corporate Services: Provide core support to ChristchurchNZ and its subsidiaries 6. Revenue and Commercial Partnerships: Grow and diversify revenue. Grow commercial partnerships and sponsorships. Maximise access to public and private revenue streams

2 Job Purposes The key purpose of this role is to lead the Christchurch Antarctic Gateway Office. The office will play a central and coordinating role in realising the city s vision of Christchurch as an Antarctic city where we celebrate and realise the value of our gateway status for the benefit of the city and nation, for current a future generations. The Antarctic Office Manager will be representing ChristchurchNZ and the City of Christchurch to diverse audiences including specialised audiences such as the diplomatic, research, science and arts communities, as well as general audiences including the people of Christchurch, our students and young people, and the visitors we want to attract. Key Accountabilities Providing gateway leadership and being a welcoming host Connecting and Exciting our community regarding the city s Antarctic connection Representing ChristchurchNZ and the City of Christchurch to diverse audiences including specialised audiences such as the diplomatic, research, science and arts communities, as well as general audiences including the people of Christchurch, our students and young people, and the visitors we want to attract as the leader of the Christchurch Antarctic Office. Working with the City s Civic and International Relations team to ensure Christchurch s Antarctic gateway status is supported by key city leaders. Establishing a gateway leadership group of national and local partners to provide clear, accountable and visible leadership to make the most of the economic, community, cultural, scientific and environmental opportunities of its gateway status and is a valued contributor and asset supporting New Zealand s interests in the Antarctic. Working with MFAT and Antarctica New Zealand to support New Zealand national Antarctic programme and to ensure Christchurch provides a worldclass welcome with a view to deepening international relations in an Antarctic context, including the retention and potential expansion of national Antarctic programmes basing themselves in or being supplied through Christchurch. Developing a plan to enhance the Season Opening experience and opportunities year on year. Collaborating with other gateway cities on areas of shared interest. Reviewing Christchurch s current business support to Antarctic programmes and identify gaps / new business opportunities and work with the business and supply community to enhance / expand offering and realise these opportunities Raising the profile of business opportunities and facilitate engagement between Christchurch business and national Antarctic programmes. Playing a leadership role in working with other city agencies to profile and promote Christchurch s involvement with the Antarctic in a way which aligns with the Christchurch story and priorities. Encouraging and promoting opportunities for the public to engage with the Antarctic (e.g. ship visits, art exhibitions, heritage tours, profile current science and scientists). 3 Encouraging people to engage with the Antarctic in an exciting, informative, interactive and meaningful way. Exploring how to encourage/support educators and students to participate in Antarctic educational opportunities Supporting the following City Strategies: Christchurch Visitor Strategy, Christchurch Economic Development Strategy, Major Events Strategy, the City Narrative and Christchurch International Relations Strategy (being drafted) Providing courageous leadership to ensure all decision making and activity is tested against our mission to ignite bold ambition in Otautahi-Christchurch significantly benefiting social, cultural, economic and environmental benefit to Canterbury. Advancing knowledge and scientific endeavour Championing Sustainability Leadership Team management & development Corporate Responsibility Supporting New Zealand s Antarctic scientific endeavour and create opportunities for greater international scientific collaboration and conversations through Christchurch Developing a city scale action which links to Antarctic and city priorities / focus e.g. pollution; reducing carbon (in city and on ice). Participate in senior leadership forums for the development of organisation strategy and review of performance Provide direction, empower, motivate and develop others in order to achieve organisational goals Ensure a culture of safety and wellness is maintained both at work and in any environment in which the organisation could be considered to be operating Take primary responsibility for the retention and when required, recruitment of highly effective and motivated staff. Ensure that all staff have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities. Ensure that all staff are regularly briefed on organisational goals, business priorities and operating procedures. Establish training and coaching programmes that are focused on optimizing the organisational performance in and understanding of your field of specialisation. Motivate and inspire staff to achieve their goals and work effectively as a team. Stakeholder engagement Seek out and develop appropriate professional relationships in order to contribute to the organisational work programmes by sourcing support and making introductions between interested parties Utilise the CRM to enable effective stakeholder management processes Business Systems & Compliance Ensure a sound understanding of, demonstrate commitment to and comply with all legislation and company policy relevant to your role and all activities undertaken in that role. 4 Maintain performance measurement records accurately and effectively utilising the appropriate business systems. Preparing monthly management reports in timely and accurate manner. When appropriate, utilise the Projects & Contracts Management Office pipeline, processes and policies to ensure effective delivery of projects and contracts that are aligned to organisational priorities and deliver value for money Approve payments and spending in line with the delegated authority associated with this role Promote a positive and professional image of ChristchurchNZ at all time Health & Safety Participate fully in team meetings, providing updates on project progress, new developments and other relevant information to the wider ChristchurchNZ teams Sustainability Maintain a high focus on resource use and disposal to minimise environmental impacts and economic cost. Encourage partners and stakeholders to adopt environmentally sound practices and quality assurance programs.
