1 CUYAHOGA COUNTY NON-BARGAINING CLASSIFICATION PLAN JOB FAMILIES What is a Job Family? Job families are broadly defined groupings of jobs involving work of the same nature, but requiring different levels of skill and responsibility. They are composed of jobs related through common vocations/professions. While jobs in a given family may differ in the complexity of duties and responsibilities, the jobs in a given family tend to be related to a common vocation or profession. Jobs in a family may not be unique to a single department, and may reside in various departments across the County s organization. Why have a Job Family? Arranging jobs into job families is a widely-used process that helps both managers and employees. Job families support managers efforts to plan employee training and development and succession planning. Job families are useful to employees to understand career paths and plan their own professional growth and development.
