1 OUSEBURN FARM CHARITY LTD JOB DESCRIPTION BUSINESS MANAGER RESPONSIBLE TO: RESPONSIBLE FOR JOB PURPOSE Head of Business Development The Ouseburn Farm Charity, and workers employed at the Ouseburn Farm 1. To manage the Ouseburn Farm Charity and the delivery of services, amenities and projects at the farm, workshop and warehouse, under the supervision of the Head of Business Development and Directors of Ouseburn Farm Charity 2. To lead the charity s growth and development and the implementation of the policies, practices and procedures as determined with the Board of the Ouseburn Farm Charity Limited and in liaison with Tyne HA Board. To ensure that the service complies with current legislation, standards, regulations and management agreements. MAIN DUTIES 1. To provide overall management of the Ouseburn Farm Charitable subsidiary. 2. To ensure effective business management with regard to the farm, workshop, retail unit and the subsidiaries land, buildings and amenities. 3. In conjunction with the Head of Business Development and Board of Ouseburn Farm Charity, to develop and implement a sustainable business plan, ensuring that key performance indicators are met across the charity

2 4. With the Head of Business Development, to manage devolved budgetary expenditure, reporting on a regular basis to the Board and achieving financial control against agreed budgets and targets. 5. To manage and oversee day-to-day health and safety implementation in accordance with Tyne HA and Ouseburn Farm Charity Ltd. policy and procedure. 6. To lead in the development and improvement of projects, activities and amenities at the farm, such as adult placements, visitor attractions, café facilities, educational/school visits, training, fundraising events, etc. 7. Manage and promote the fundraising and marketing activity of the subsidiary achieving agreed outcomes and targets. 8. To support, direct, supervise and assess the work of staff at the subsidiary and identify training needs. 9. Work with colleagues at Tyne HA to build effective working links between staff and residents of the association and the activities of the subsidiary. 10. To provide outside representation on strategic planning and development groups. 11. To ensure that staff under his/her supervision are providing an appropriate service to visitors, volunteers and trainees at the farm. 12. To undertake administrative functions in the maintenance of appropriate records and monitoring systems. 13. To attend or organise internal or external meetings, giving verbal or written reports as or when required. 14. To represent the subsidiary and the group with external agencies, regulatory bodies and other stakeholders. 15. Such other duties as may be required by Tyne HA and the subsidiary board, consistent with the job purpose and the promotion of the farm and Tyne HA. TERMS AND CONDITIONS Annual remuneration Hours of work Annual leave 27,000-30,000 per annum, linked to performance 37.5 hrs per week 5 days over a seven-day period 26 days

3 Notice Period 4 weeks All staff are employed subject to the successful completion of a six-month probationary period. Specific terms and conditions will be as stated in the Terms and Conditions of Employment document. Supervision and direction will be provided by the Head of Business Development. BUSINESS MANAGER PERSON SPECIFICATION ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE MEANS OF ASSESSMENT KNOWLEDGE AND APTITUDES Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to motivate and develop staff. Ability to coordinate staff and resources on a day-to-day basis to ensure effective teamwork and resource planning. Excellent organisation and planning skills. Ability to manage and administer budgets and to make financial assessments and projections pertaining to the Charity High level of literacy and numeracy and the ability to undertake, supervise and develop administrative functions. Knowledge of issues surrounding community based projects and experience of working in community projects. understanding of visitor attraction operations understanding of catering and hospitality operations Application Form Ability to translate strategic decisions and objectives into delivery of initiatives and work-streams at an operational level understanding of monitoring and

4 evaluation and impact measurement processes EXPERIENCE Previous experience of managing or supervising diverse staff teams and volunteers. Experience in the management and development of community based and/or externally funded projects. Experience in managing a business, social enterprise or charity. Proven experience in reaching targets and achieving objectives Experience of working with Agencies, stakeholders and the wider community linked to service delivery, fundraising and integrated projects Experience of liaison and negotiation with funding bodies. Experience in an adult social care setting Experience in a tourist or leisure and visitor attraction setting Experience of managing a building Application Form Experience of commercial activity including retail or promotional activity KEY SKILLS/ ATTRIBUTES Sensitivity and understanding to the needs and requirement of community groups and individuals using the Charity s facilities and the ability to balance those with the needs of the organisation in terms of effective management.
