Line management of regionally/nationally based staff (subject to co-design process) in years two and three. We won t give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect. We provide advice and support to empower anybody experiencing a mental health problem and we campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. The Networks and Communities (N&C) Department at Mind has a crucially important role in enabling Mind to reach more people, increase our influence and effect long lasting change in all communities including those disadvantaged and marginalised communities, across England and Wales. We support people to be involved in designing and delivering our work, and to develop their own ability to lead. Sector Support Lead for Physical Activity Page 1 of 5

2 Our increased impact comes about through supporting and strengthening the federated model and our relationships with our network of 130+ affiliated local Minds organisations, so that strategically we can align and they are supported and equipped to act as the primary vehicles and take ownership and leadership of Mind s mission in local areas across England and Wales. The Community Services Unit works to strengthen our approach to supporting the development and commissioning/funding of local Mind s services. The unit s work is based around a clear Service Strategy. As Sector Support Lead for Physical Activity, alongside the Head of Physical Activity you will lead on the Sector Engagement and Influencing strand of the Get Set to Go programme. The main purpose of the role is to: Lead on the planning and implementation of the co-design process for phase 2 sector influencing and support at a regional level with key stakeholders, including local Minds and Sport England. Scope and deliver the sector engagement and influencing strand of the Get Set to Go programme effectively, ensuring specific targets and outcomes are met. Support the Head of Physical Activity to account manage a portfolio of strategic partners ensuring a positive working relationship is developed across both organisations, brokering wider relationships with colleagues within Mind and through our networks and ensuring partners become sector leaders. Develop universal resources and tools that will support our wider partners to embed sport and physical activity positive mental health in their work which are relevant to and appropriate for diverse communities. Contribute to the widespread sharing and scaling of learning and models across the organisation and wider networks across England, working specifically with regional leads as identified. Mind aims to ensure that the needs and interests of mental health service users, women, black and minority ethnic communities, disabled people, lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender and people of all ages are reflected in all its activities. All staff are expected to contribute to this aim. Key responsibilities 1. Delivery of time-bound support to a portfolio of targeted sport and physical providers at national level, facilitating support from wider colleagues within Mind (for example Information, Communication and Evaluation and Research teams). 2. Delivery of national stakeholder engagement plan for sport and physical activity sector. 3. Develop universal resources and tools that will support our wider partners to embed sport and physical activity for the positive mental health in their work, this may include developing webinars, training, resources, toolkits and factsheets. 4. Contribute to the widespread sharing and scaling of learning and models across the organisation and wider networks, including commissioners, through promotion and training activities. 5. Respond to reactive national responses with standard programme resource offer and coordinate with regional leads on response to local and regional activity. 6. Production and dissemination of standardised resources to support regional sector engagement and influencing. 7. Ensure that new areas of the programme are co-designed with partners and people with personal experience of mental health problems, including those from racialised or other marginalised and Sector Support Lead for Physical Activity Page 2 of 5

3 disadvantaged communities. This may include facilitating engagement sessions and working with Engagement Consultants. 8. Lead on the planning and implementation of the co-design process for phase 2 sector influencing and support at a regional level with key stakeholders, including local Minds and Sport England. 9. Coordinate, plan and deliver work with colleagues from across a range of departments including Information, Research, Communications, Workplace Wellbeing and Time to Change. 10. Recruit, manage and support freelance consultants to deliver activities on behalf of Mind where appropriate. 11. Responsible for and or contribute to the setting up and maintaining of project and programme reporting mechanisms where required, to collect quarterly appropriate output and outcome data from each of the projects 12. Produce and/or contribute to reports to funders and other reporting needs 13. Maintain an excellent understanding of the sport and physical activity sector, health and social care and relevant policy environment. Expectations: 1. To ensure our work reaches people from a wide range of backgrounds, including people from marginalised communities and disadvantaged communities. 2. To ensure that people with experience of mental health problems, including those from diverse, marginalised and disadvantaged communities, inform the design, take part in the delivery and review the work of the team as fully as possible 3. To be responsible for working collaboratively with others in the Unit, Department and organisation, where relevant, and to meet regularly to develop joint solutions and actions. This includes working with colleagues in Mind Cyrmu to make sure activity is proportionally delivered across both England and Wales 4. To attend and contribute to meetings, training and other events as required. 5. To attend and contribute to the supervision and appraisal process. 6. To ensure that all responsibilities and activities within this post are in accordance with the terms and spirit of Mind s policies 7. To occasionally travel to meetings in England and Wales, which may require the need to work unsociable hours e.g. attending evening or weekend meetings or for overnight stay. 8. To adhere to relevant legal and statutory requirements including the Data Protection Act and the Health and Safety at Work Act 9. To use Mind s resources responsibly 10. 4 Person specification: Sector Support Lead for Physical Activity Essential criteria 1. Experience of involving community members including those from marginalised and disadvantaged communities, in the effective influence and participation of projects and services that you have worked on 2. Experience of ensuring that people from marginalised and disadvantaged communities have effectively influenced and participated in projects and services that you have worked on 3. Experience of designing projects and programmes that involve service users and other stakeholders including funders and deliverers in the design, development and delivery. 4. Excellent programme and project management skills, with a track record of delivering excellent performance against agreed targets and objectives. 5. Expertise in and aptitude for establishing, structuring, influencing and managing a wide range of relationships and complex strategic partnerships, 6. Experience of developing and delivering training courses, workshops and activity sessions to meet the learner s objectives. 7. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to summarise and synthesis content creatively for a wide range of mediums including websites, e-learning, blogs and reports. 8. Experience of developing and implementing communications plans, including working to brand guidelines, developing key messages and working with designers to develop comms materials. 9. Experience of contributing to programme evaluations and an understanding of the main approaches to outcomes measurement. 10. A track record in work that reaches diverse communities including those marginalised and disadvantaged, through engagement and participation activities. 11. Understanding of the sport, physical activity and health sectors and the role of physical activity in building resilience, enabling and supporting mental health recovery and tackling stigma and discrimination. 12. Ability to work flexibly and managing competing priorities. Desirable criteria Required for all posts: 1. Experience of having worked with people from a range of racialised and other marginalised and disadvantaged communities to effectively influence and participate in projects and services that you have worked on 3. A professional track record in the development and delivery of sport and physical activity programmes at a regional or national level. 4. Tutoring or training qualifications for example PTTLS, CTS, teacher training qualification or equivalent. 5. An understanding of Mind and its networks, or similar structures within the voluntary sector. 6. Experience of working with the media (newspapers, radio, TV) and ability to undertake pre-recorded and live interviews about Mind s work in a confident and easy-to-understand manner.
