1 Page 1 of 5 COUNTY OF SONOMA INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF: Nutritionist - PART-TIME An Equal Opportunity Employer SALARY $ $31.62 Hourly OPENING DATE: 10/16/12 CLOSING DATE: 10/30/12 THE POSITION The County's Department of Health Services is seeking a skilled professional to fill one (1) anticipated Part-Time (approximately 60 hours per pay period-biweekly) vacancy as a Nutritionist in its Public Health Division. The employment list resulting from this recruitment may also be used to fill future part-time or extra-help (temporary) vacancies as they occur during the active status of the list. This part-time position will develop healthy food standards for Sonoma County healthy food programs. Duties also include assisting in the promotion, training, development, and implementation of a healthy food procurement policy and guidelines for county agencies. This Nutritionist will also assist in the Farm to School Program, Breast Feeding/IDA Program, diabetes prevention, and healthy food outlet programs. In addition, this position will disseminate policy and guidelines to other local jurisdictions for voluntary adoption, and will coordinate nutrition services and nutrition education activities across all programs. The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge in the principles, techniques and practices of sound nutrition and dietary patterns; experience in training others in the principles of health nutrition; experience in data collection and analysis methods used in nutritional investigation and dietary studies; experience in communicating to a wide variety of groups both verbally and in writing; and working collaboratively with local health agencies and community partners in reaching positive outcomes relevant to healthy dietary patterns. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Any combination of education and/or training which would provide an opportunity to acquire the above knowledge and abilities. A typical way to qualify is: Possession of a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a major in food, nutrition, dietetics or a closely related field and completion of an internship in a program accredited by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

2 Page 2 of 5 License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level, including necessary special endorsements as required by the State of California, may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position. Registration: Current registration as a Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration or eligibility for registration. Must obtain registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration within the six month probationary period. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Considerable Knowledge Of: the principles, techniques and practices of sound nutrition and dietary patterns; the educational methods and skills used in training others in the principles of nutrition and the manner in which the principles are applied to various phases of public health programs; the dietary requirements of various age and occupational groups, expectant mothers, and others with specialized food requirements; modern principles and techniques necessary for effective supervision. Working Knowledge Of: the analytical and statistical research methods used in nutritional investigation and dietary studies; modern office practices, administration and recordkeeping; current sociological and economic problems pertaining to community health nutrition. Ability To: apply methods and techniques used in nutrition investigation and dietary studies; plan, organize and conduct training programs on nutrition; supervise and assign the work of others in a manner conducive with effective operations and high morale; establish and maintain rapport with the community, other professionals and other staff; prepare clear and concise reports; analyze situations effectively and implement an appropriate course of action. 3 Page 3 of 5 will be conducted to evaluate each applicant's application and supplemental questionnaire for satisfaction of minimum qualifications (pass/not pass), and for educational coursework, training, experience, knowledge, and abilities which relate to this position. Each applicant will be evaluated based on the following criteria: Relevance of work history, related experience, and achieved level of education and/or training as described in the application and responses to the supplemental questions. Candidates demonstrating possession of the minimum qualifications will be placed on an employment list in order of most qualified to least qualified based on the achieved score received in the Application & Supplemental Questionnaire Appraisal Examination. Scores may be adjusted based on such factors as number of candidates, anticipated vacancies, past practice, and natural breaks in the scores achieved by this group of candidates. Additional Information: A background investigation will be required prior to appointment for some positions. Candidates referred to departments for a selection interview are typically required to sign authorization and release forms enabling such an investigation.
