1 NECA JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title Location Recovery Support Worker South Shields Ambassador House NECA reserves the right to change the post holder s place of work Responsible To Accountable to Recovery and Reintegration Manager/ Senior Recovery Coordinator Service Coordinator-Manager / Regional Treatment Manager Purpose of Job To provide comprehensive support for substance misuse clients including those who have been through the criminal justice system, to facilitate successful rehabilitation into the community. Principle Responsibilities Provide support, information and advice to individuals in relation to substance misuse. Improve access to appropriate services for clients with substance misuse issues Promote the service to potential clients and other agencies Guide clients through abstinence based 12 step programme of recovery Facilitate a structured therapeutic support programme through 12 Step workshops, Big Book studies and other workshops in accordance with timetabled activities and the 12 Step Ambassador Programme. Maintain records of the client attendance and participation in the group programme including external group attendance. Support Client attendance to AA/NA meetings Support clients to attend appointments where required Support clients both practically and emotionally to develop daily living skills Ensure regular consultation with service-users and promote their equality, diversity and rights Build and sustain relationships with service users to enable delivery of the recovery plan, enabling them to make informed decisions Meet key service objectives in line with policies, procedures and data collection systems. Collaborate with team members to maximise service performance, meet targets and SLAs. Update and maintain, where required, client records and participate in Recovery plan reviews with the named recovery coordinator. Utilise recording and statistical systems to collect and collate data and ensure that all administration, case recording, written reports etc are maintained to agreed standards. Maintain a safe and welcoming environment ensuring health and safety standards are August

2 adhered to. Collaborate effectively with partner agencies and bring a proactive approach to partnership work. Liaise effectively with all agencies involved in service user s support in order to deliver the support package including referrals to other providers. Contribute to the development of STMBC generic services and the five principles of well being Contribute positively to relevant internal and external forums. Support the day to day running of the Life Boat Dry Bar as required Quality Ensure all services are delivered in accordance with recognised quality standards including QuADS, DANOS, Models of Care, National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) Guidance, Care Quality Commission (CQC) Standards and any other standards relevant to the Service. Ensure quality standards are maintained through continual monitoring of own performance expectations; and through stakeholder feedback, including service-users and partner agencies; Ensure service- user records are accurately maintained and are in compliance with relevant legislation and NECA systems, controls, policy and procedures concerning the accurate collection, maintenance, retrieval, security and storage of client data. Ensure compliance with the Quality and Clinical Governance Handbook Health and Safety Ensure a safe working environment for self, colleagues, and service users at all times. Ensure completion of risk assessments as required Ensure compliance with the Safety, Health, Environment and Fire (SHEF) Handbook. Personal and Professional Development Seek, accept and participate in monthly Managerial supervision Facilitate Probation Reviews, Managerial Supervision and Annual Appraisal in line with organisational policy and procedure Provide professional support to all colleagues Continually review and assess own performance and identify further development needs Participate in further learning, development and training in line with professional development needs and in accordance with relevant regulatory bodies. Maintain Personal Development Plan with identified targets and action plans with annual appraisals of practice/competency. Criminal Record Checks This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and August

3 Barring Service (DBS) to check for any previous criminal convictions. 5 Person Specification Essential Criteria Knowledge Equality and Diversity Practices Experienced understanding of the 12 step recovery programme and its implementation. Demonstrate the ability to effectively work with people regardless of their ethnic, cultural, social backgrounds, their gender, age, religious belief, disability and sexual orientation Experience Previous work with substance misuse clients (employed or voluntary) Experience of development and delivery of the 12 step programme treatment model. Providing direct client services including one-to-one group-work Working in partnership with other agencies Qualifications Level 2/3 Health & Social Care or related qualification Experience of delivering a 12 step Inspirational programme. 6 Terms of Employment Salary 10, 800 per annum (pro rata of 18,000 per annum) Hours of work 18 hours per week including weekends. Flexibility to cover rota shifts 7 days per week. Additional flexibility may be required to cover shifts at short notice. Annual Leave Sick Pay (OSP) Allowances Occupational Pension The post holder will be entitled to 4.8 weeks annual leave in the first year of employment and 6 weeks thereafter, plus all bank and statutory holidays. The post holder will after six months service receive an allowance of four weeks full pay and four weeks half pay; after one year s service six weeks full pay and six weeks half pay; (less statutory sick pay); within each period of 12 months commencing on the first day of sickness absence. Expenses for travel whilst on NECA business are claimable, in the case of car mileage according to the prevailing rate set by the Inland Revenue, and in the case of public transport, at cost. Staff who agree to use their car must have insurance cover which includes business use. Subject to your age and earnings level, you may be eligible for auto-enrolment into NECA s occupational pension scheme administered by Scottish Widows.
