3 LEVEL 4 CERTIFICATE The Level 4 Certificate in Community Interpreting is accepted for paid professional Interpreting assignments in the majority of public services. The Level 4 Certificate in Community Interpreting helps you to develop knowledge and skills in your chosen specialisms, making you more attractive to employers. You will develop not only a detailed understanding of how to interpret in various situations, but also a thorough understanding of professional practice and the current debates in the specialist areas you choose. The course gives you the opportunity to develop your consecutive, simultaneous and telephone interpreting skills as well as providing you with the knowledge you need to run a successful freelance business.

4 STUDY ASSESSMENT At ISL we understand the need for flexibility. That s why our qualifications use blended learning so you are able to choose when, where and what to study to obtain the qualification that best suits you. The course is designed to deliver the knowledge you need to develop as a professional Community Interpreter in your chosen specialist areas and will be tailored to meet your individual needs. Develop your interpreting skills and knowledge with the support of your personal mentor/assessor by completing interactive exercises, projects, assignments and real life practise. You are free to complete the qualification in your own time, on average it will take approximately six months to complete. At ISL, we do not believe in assessing your competence with one end-of-course test. Instead, your knowledge and ability is assessed on an ongoing basis through a range of different methods which you choose with your mentor/assessor. These typically include observation of interpreting practice, discussions, practical assignments and demonstration of knowledge. By the end of your qualification you will have created a portfolio of evidence and a reflective learning journal which will prove you can do the job. Your allocated assessor will support and guide you along the way, providing the direction and feedback you need to succeed.

5 APPLICATION Initial application for courses is done by completing an online application form. You will also be required to undertake an English Proficiency Test to ascertain: -The fluency of your spoken language -The fluency and accuracy of written language -The ability to process and analyse written texts of the sort you can expect to encounter on the level of the course you are applying for.
