The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) was established to provide a coordinated and integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of primary health care services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the South East Qld Region. Join this dynamic organization and drive your career forward Competitive Salary Package arrangements are available This role: We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Communications Officer to take responsibility for the provision of communications expertise in the development and implementation of communications planning, campaigns and communication productions. In doing this, you will: Provide expertise in communications and public relations advice to senior management on a broad range of issues affecting the sector Research, prepare and develop public relations materials including media releases, articles, advertising and web and social media content Lead the planning, development and implementation of communication strategies for various audiences including project managing campaigns Oversee web content and contribute to continuous quality improvement strategies to ensure currency of website Develop promotional documentation for IUIH events and activities including community events and healthy lifestyle promotions Key Requirement Include: Qualification in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, PR and/or equivalent relevant and public relations/communications experience Project management experience with the ability to manage a marketing campaign from inception to completion Demonstrated ability to write, edit and develop creative communications, media and digital content Ability to work sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people To be successful in this role, you will need: Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong Customer Focus Strong relationship builder Contributing team player In return, you will be rewarded with the opportunity to develop your career within this organisation that truly values its people. The Corporate Services team is responsible for the management and delivery of effective, Finance, Human Resources, Quality & Accreditation, Information & Communications Technology and Administrative systems, policies, processes and support operations to enable IUIH to meet its business objectives. Role Purpose The Senior Communications Officer is responsible for the provision of communications expertise in the development and implementation of effective communications planning, campaigns and communication productions, in line with IUIH Communications strategies. This includes development and implementation of scheduled and unscheduled activities as part of an overall IUIH Social Media Plan as well as the provision of professional communications and public relations services to senior management in achieving the objectives of the IUIH Strategic Plan and Action Plans. Role Responsibilities Communications Identify and advise the Manager on appropriate channels and use of Social Media to achieve communications objectives Provide expertise in communications and PR advice to senior management on a broad range of issues affecting the sector. Undertake research and analysis of issues impacting on IUIH s brand, position and member organisations, as well as develop position papers across a broad range of issues as directed. Research, prepare and develop public relations material including media

3 releases, articles, advertising, and web and social media content. Provide communications and public relations support for communication activities, meetings and events. Scheduling of online and radio media communications Media monitoring Campaign Management Lead the planning, developing, implementing and managing communication strategies for various audiences including project managing campaigns including o taking a key role in developing channel strategy; o campaign plans/timetable; o costings; o communication content and materials, as directed. Lead, social media development and coordination within the Social Media Plan/Schedule Oversee web content and contribute to continuous quality improvement strategies to ensure up to date and currency of website including undertaking liaison with content owners and Contribute to and facilitate processes to ensure key messages for intranet communications Communication Materials Contribute to the development of a range of corporate documentation and publications including: briefing notes, promotional flyers, newsletters, media releases and annual reports. Design and produce the quarterly IUIH Newsletter securing publishing/ broadcasting of good news stories Design and develop promotional documentation for IUIH events and activities, i.e. Community Events, Healthy Lifestyle promotions and events Ensure quality and compliance with writing guidelines and design standards, copyright and other legal requirements, IUIH policy and best practice. Ensure that communication requests are handled in a timely manner. Write or edit communications content as required, for IUIH and members Assist with media monitoring and crisis management Relationship Management Foster productive working relationships with other IUIH staff in the delivery of seamless support services Encourage cross-functional collaboration to achieve the best outcome for the organisation. Champion IUIH s Ways Statement both internally and externally to the wider community. Information Management Undertake reporting activities together with other relevant documentation within the scope of your role. Maintain the information flow that supports reliable data and documentation in your area of responsibility. Wear/use and maintain/care for personal protective clothing and/or equipment provided and report any defects. Use lifting equipment and assistive devices as required. Participate in rehabilitation process if injured or ill due to work. Demonstrate leadership in IUIH s Work Health Safety goals and objectives remaining complaint wuith WHS Legislation and IUIH s policies and procedures. Carry out your duties safely in accordance with your ability and competence. Other duties consistent with the position where required and/or requested by your Manager. Role Requirements Essential Current C Class Drivers Licence (Qld) Ability to travel across South East Queensland (SEQ) as required. Qualifications and Experience Qualification in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, PR and/or equivalent relevant and public relations/communications experience in a similar organization Proven experience working at a Senior level of Communications or similar role Demonstrated experience developing key communication deliverables for stakeholders, especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people(s) Desirable Understanding of the issues including social determinants affecting Aboriginal people s health status in contemporary Australian society Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health services and the issues facing these organizations Sound knowledge of communications with the proven ability to liaise effectively with media representatives and key internal and external stakeholders.

5 Team player with a 'can do' and hands on attitude Attention to detail and ability to multitask whilst maintaining high quality of work Experience that demonstrates your project management skills in managing a marketing campaign from inception to completion High level of computer literacy and ability to use a range of computer software packages including Microsoft Office, Internet, Demonstrated ability to write, edit and develop creative content
