1 National Transit Institute Achievements in Transit Training Awards Award Nomination Packet NTI s Achievements in Transit Training Awards provide a unique opportunity to acknowledge excellence in transit training. NTI invites members of the transit community to nominate individuals and teams for these awards using the criteria listed in this brochure. The purpose of the Achievements in Transit Training Awards is to: Identify exemplary transit training initiatives and practices Emphasize the impact of training on agency performance Increase industry knowledge of outstanding transit training Employees of U.S. public transit agencies, Departments of Transportation, or other not-for-profit transit organizations are eligible. Nomination Procedures This nomination packet provides the criteria, eligibility, and nomination forms for each award. Please submit nominations using the enclosed forms and additional sheets, as necessary, by Friday, September 14, Electronic submissions are welcome. Copies of forms can also be downloaded from NTI s website at Self-nominations are welcome. Questions regarding the awards program can be directed to Amy Badaracco at or nti_ttw@nti.rutgers.edu. Selection Procedures An Awards Committee composed of representatives from the transit community reviews the award nominations. Nominations are evaluated based on the information provided on the nomination form and attachments. The committee reserves the right to withhold an award in a category or select multiple winners for an award based on the quality and quantity of nominations received. Awards Committee members and their direct reports are not eligible for an award. Notification of Nominees Nominees will be notified in writing. Individuals wishing to withdraw their names from consideration must contact NTI immediately. The Achievements in Transit Training Awards will be presented at NTI s Transit Trainers Workshop in Seattle, Washington on Tuesday, November 13, Workshop registration fees are waived for individual winners or for one representative from an award winning team. In addition, award winners are recognized through press releases sent to newspapers and trade publications, as well as letters to senior management.

2 Selection Criteria Model Program Award This award recognizes training initiatives that apply innovative concepts to meet a specific agency objective. Nominations can range from a single, narrowly focused program to a multifaceted, organization-wide effort. Needs Assessment (20%) Indication that the nominated initiative was an appropriate response to an identified problem or need. Design Process (30%) Identification of how this program was different or innovative in its design or implementation relative to other agency programs and/or traditional approaches for addressing the program content or delivery. Impact (50%) Estimated impact on employee and organizational performance. Champions Award This award honors a transit agency head or executive-level manager whose advocacy, commitment, and actions affirm and promote workplace learning values. Leadership (50%) Evidence of the nominee s leadership on issues or programs that have a substantial impact on workplace learning and employee development. Leadership includes the nominee s ability to foster employee trust and confidence in management regarding workplace learning issues. Commitment (50%) Evidence of the nominee s commitment to the training and development of all agency employees. This includes demonstrated success in increasing senior management s awareness and funding of workplace learning. Training Professional of the Year Award This award recognizes the exceptional contribution and sustained impact of a transit training professional on his or her organization and the industry. Impact (30%) Evidence of the nominee s impact on his or her organization and its employees. Leadership and Innovation (20%) The extent to which the nominee applies original concepts and/or innovative approaches to achieve desired results. Professional Development (10%) The extent to which the nominee seeks to continually enrich his or her skills and knowledge. Shared Learning (10%) The extent to which the nominee shares his or her experience, knowledge, and insight with colleagues both inside and outside his or her organization. Reference Letters (30%) At least three letters from individuals other than the person who submitted the nomination. The letters should address why the nominee deserves special recognition.
