To recruit and monitor freelance specialists and professional partners. To project manage key elements of work including budget management and revision, fundraising, event management, promotion, organising and chairing meetings (when requested), and liaising and managing relationships with members of the jazz sector, project partners, artists and advisory groups. Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities 1. Managing the development, promotion and organisation of key Jazz South projects: Platform South; Jazz South Introduces; Jazz South commissions. 2. Organising and managing Jazz South s showcases, education conferences, promoter meetings and legacy building events, including sourcing, liaison with and contracting artists 3. Developing the Jazz South sub regional advisory panels, chairing meetings (on occasion), recruiting and liaising with Artist Ambassadors 4. Tendering and recruitment of specialist consultants and professional development partners and liaising with and monitoring their delivery of educational and other elements of the Jazz South project 5. Overseeing and managing the development of the Jazz South website and other digital/social media platforms and managing ongoing content % Time 25 % 15%

2 Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities 6. Responsible for raising funds (making applications to trusts, cultural funders and others) for elements of the Jazz South project programme and managing funder relationships and reporting 7. Monitoring and reviewing the Jazz South budget, managing project budgets and reporting to appropriate colleagues and line-manager 8. Reporting to and liaising with line-manager, funders, advisory panels and professional partners on the progress and outcomes of the Jazz South project. % Time 5% 5 % 9. Contributing to the Turner Sims staff team and participating in occasional staff meetings. 5 % 10. Any other duties as allocated by the line manager following consultation with the post holder. 5 % Internal and external relationships The Jazz South Manager will maintain positive and efficient working relationships with all members of the Jazz South team (including advisory panels and artist ambassadors), colleagues at Turner Sims and the University of Southampton. The Jazz South Manager will represent Jazz South in a positive and efficient fashion in project relationships with artists, promoters, professional partners and other jazz sector organisations; and will represent Jazz South and its project to the media and the general public in the UK and elsewhere and in particular in the South East and South West of England. PERSON SPECIFICATION Criteria Essential Desirable How to be assessed Qualifications, knowledge and experience Skill level equivalent to achievement of HND, Degree, NVQ4 or basic professional qualification - including qualification or equivalent experience in cultural/arts administration Established relationships within the jazz sector Practical understanding of music education in jazz Proven experience of planning and progressing work activities within broad professional guidelines and/or broad organisational policy. Practical experience in music (and specifically jazz) promotion, marketing and talent development Understanding of how the specialist/professional services provided by the post-holder support the objectives of the Jazz South project, Turner Sims and the University. Able to apply an awareness of principles and trends in cultural policy, arts administration and regional jazz development and an awareness of how this affects activities of Jazz South and cultural provision by Turner Sims and the University. A practical working knowledge and experience of the jazz sector and of 2

3 music and cultural/arts administration in general An understanding of and experience in fundraising from various sources and demonstrable skills in meeting criteria and successful fundraising from public and trust sources, specific to cultural and educational projects Planning and organising A proven ability to plan, coordinate and manage music projects, meetings and special events Specific experience in organising conferences and consultative meetings A proven ability to manage and balance own-workload and the workload of others Specific experience in working directly on projects with musicians, educators and promoters Problem solving and initiative The ability to work on project development in consultation with advisors and professional partners Experience of successful project management. The ability to identify and pursue opportunities for the benefit of Jazz South and the jazz sector Able to seek opportunities to progress a broad range of activities within professional guidelines and in support of Jazz South, Turner Sims and University policies..
