1 Our Financial Inclusion Action Plan 1

2 From Ross Low, Chief Executive Officer BaptistCare affirms its long term commitment to working with individuals, families and communities who live with entrenched disadvantage including financial exclusion through the development of our Financial Inclusion Action Plan (FIAP), with an initial focus on our Community Services Division. Programs associated with this Division have a footprint that spans across NSW and the ACT, and offer vital community services including safe accommodation for women and children escaping domestic violence, counselling services, drop-in community centres and access to safe and affordable finance through microfinance services. Across the organisation we have a workforce of 3600 people and 1000 volunteers. Almost three quarters of our managers are women. Approximately 20% of our staff work casually and a further 64% work part time. This FIAP will help us better understand the financial context of our staff, in particular our female staff, and implement as appropriate innovative measures that will assist them to move towards financial inclusion and resilience. In addition, 41% of our workforce are born overseas which will further inform the development and implementation of our FIAP. We have demonstrated our commitment to building financial resilience and inclusion for disadvantaged individuals, families and communities for over 70 years with significant investment in property and staff who are experienced and skilled professionals. Our primary approach is to help people transition to a more stable, safe and financially secure status. We recognise that the impact of financial exclusion can be profound and is often the result of multiple causes such as prolonged unemployment, domestic violence, homelessness and family dysfunction. Our programs provide multiple entry points for engagement and support and we work hard to link services together, both within BaptistCare and in collaboration with other organisations. Our accreditation journey as a White Ribbon organisation is an expression of our commitment to ensuring the safety of all staff, especially our female staff and volunteers and is also a lens through which the FIAP will be shaped, reviewed and delivered. Our commitment to the FIAP will assist us in reviewing and shaping priorities for our customers, volunteers and staff initially within the Community Services Division. In the future we will apply the FIAP more widely across the organisation. We are thrilled to be joining the growing FIAP Community of Practice to learn from other trailblazers and to share our experience in engaging the most vulnerable in our communities. Together we are embarking on a journey to explore, learn and grow both as a program through this Foundation FIAP and as Trailblazers undertaking the important process of reducing inequalities and promoting inclusive growth in our communities. Financial hardship can impact us all, at any stage in our lives through the FIAP, our hope is that every organisation will be able to respond in time and every time to ensure financial hardship can be identified early, managed and overcome. By building capacity, awareness and greater access to appropriate products and services, organisations will see the social and economic benefits in their engagement, outcomes and prosperity of customers and employees. The FIAP Partnership Group exists to support the growing community of practice to identify opportunities to better respond to financial risks, develop meaningful actions across key stakeholders and measure the social and economic impact. Drawing on our individual expertise the FIAP Partnership Group will provide implementation, evaluation and quality assurance support to ensure key actions you have identified are (i) on track to achieve the intended impact and (ii) engaging those stakeholders in most need of support. We are proud to be on this important journey with BaptistCare. At the heart of the FIAP program is the belief that together we can achieve more.
