Adheres to city safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment for personnel. Recommends, utilizes, maintains and cleans equipment on the job. Rating Scale and Definitions Standards 4.0 Performance consistently surpasses all established standards. Activities often contribute to improved or innovative work practices. This category is to be used for truly outstanding performance. Supervisor is required to provide narrative comments to justify this rating. Fully Proficient Consistently Meets/Sometimes Exceeds Standards (<4.0) (<3) Performance meets all established standards and sometimes exceeds them. Activities contribute to increased unit/department results. Employee consistently completes the work that is required, and at times goes beyond expectations. Performance meets most, but not all, established standards. Activities sometimes contribute to unit/department results. This category is to be used for employees who must demonstrate improvement or more consistent performance. Inspect, maintain and repair City vehicles and automotive equipment, including cars, trucks, motor graders, tractors, mowers, and other equipment using a variety of special hand or power tools to perform minor overhauls of transmissions, engines, differentials, hydraulic systems, hydrostatic drives, electronic and pneumatic systems. Maintain vehicle and engine periodic service, install and adjust brakes, and clutch assemblies. 3. Efficiently use acetylene or electric torch to cut, weld, and fabricate materials. 3 7. Service vehicles by repairing, installing, replacing parts and accessories, such as wheels, tires, lights, wiper arms, windshields and side glass, fuses, batteries or other special equipment. Inspect defective equipment to determine extent of wear or damage, may requisition parts and materials. Conduct various mechanical tests and refer to a variety of repair manuals or other diagnostic tools. 8. Effectively operate all types of equipment such as graders, loaders, trucks and instruct others in the proper pre and post operation inspection of that equipment. 9. May coordinate activities of workers engaged in maintaining or repairing mechanical equipment. May travel to work sites to supervise and coordinate activities of workers. Develop and maintain effective customer relationships. Maintain and clean tools and the shop area as required. 6 Physical Requirements and Work Environment Indicate the appropriate physical requirements of this job in the course of a shift. Overtime Status Exempt (salaried not eligible for overtime) Job Requirements Minimum Work Experience, Education and Other Skills. Licensures & Certifications Licenses must be active and current. Performing the duties of this job requires mobile physical requirements; the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Lifting requirements of 40 pounds frequently and 75 pounds occasionally. Environment includes exposure to outside elements, with walking and driving in inclement weather. Hand/eye coordination for operation of personal computer; vision for reading and preparing written work orders; frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communications with employees. Occasional outside work, with exposure to outside elements. Must be able to withstand contact with a variety of cleaning agents and solvents. May be subjected to a variety of airborne particles. _X_ Nonexempt (hourly eligible for overtime) High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Five (5) years experience in mechanical field or similar position and two (2) years of mechanical training preferred. Requires knowledge of equipment, materials and procedures involved in maintenance and repair of city vehicles and equipment, with the ability to repair and maintain heavy equipment, gas and diesel vehicles and machinery at a highly skilled level. ASE Certifications in at least four (4) categories- Automotive and Truck preferred. Current Colorado Class A or B Commercial Driver s license with acceptable driving record. Page 6 of 8
