1 JOB DESCRIPTION 1. JOB IDENTIFICATION Job Title: Assistant Clinical Psychologist : Adult Department: Psychological Services Accountable to: Consultant Adult Psychology. Job Holder Reference: MHS472 No of Job Holders: 1 2. JOB PURPOSE To assist the Psychological Therapy Adult Lead in the collection and collation of information required to inform the development of a new Primary Care Mental Health Strategy. To work with the Psychological Therapy Adult Lead to collate and report on data relating to demand capacity, activity and queue (DCAQ) within MH services on an ongoing basis. Collect and analyse relevant data to evaluate developments, test hypotheses, assess improvements. Help with Outcome measurement and reporting systems. Provide assistance to colleagues in the mental health service to analyse information. Undertake routine service audit and service evaluation Supervised individual and group clinical work: min of 1 day a week. 3. ORGANISATIONAL POSITION Accountable to Psychological Therapy Adult Lead. 4. SCOPE AND RANGE Close working with Health Information systems team, team managers and administration staff. Liaison with referrers, team colleagues, department colleagues and stakeholders Participation in specific reading, audit and evaluation of clinical records and referrals. MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in the development of appropriate systems for the recording and collating of data to inform and audit a newly configured service Work with relevant managers and clinical leads to look at methods of demand and capacity management. Assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client s problems, under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist. Draft clinical reports as required Undertake CPD, attend personal clinical supervision sessions, internal and external training 6. SYSTEMS AND EQUIPMENT A range of psychometric tests measuring: a. DECISIONS AND JUDGEMENTS Plans and prioritises own workload with minimal direction from manager Day to day decisions requiring good judgements and analysis of a range of alternatives Supervised interpretation of performance and scores on psychometric tests Decides best course of action within clinical sessions Comments on proposals Works within departmental, occupational and professional guidelines 8. COMMUNICATIONS AND RELATIONSHIPS Routine communication by: Telephone Letters Face to face-one to one, small groups and large groups Requires empathy, understanding and the ability to deal with barriers to understanding including; hostility and antagonism and a highly emotive atmosphere

3 Functional Relationships with: Lead Clinician - being managed, supervised and supported Other professionals/agencies- liaison and training Day to Day supervision by designated Consultant Clinical Psychologist. Works closely with Service Co-ordinator 9. PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB Driving for up to an hour at a time at least once during most working days Remaining seated for periods of up to 2 hours when with patients Prolonged concentration for psychometric testing and patient interventions Administering practical tests of abilities following very precise procedures 10. MOST CHALLENGING/DIFFICULT PARTS OF THE JOB Building close working relationships with a wide range of service providers Devising evaluation systems that are accurate and reliable Co-ordinating working week to achieve multiple objectives within tight time scales

4 PERSON SPECIFICATION - Assistant Psychologist - Adult Essential Desirable How Tested 1 Qualifications An upper second class honours degree psychology. Eligible for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis. Evidence examination results of 2 Experience 3 Skills Use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint to produce reports, analyse data and presentation of findings. High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be emotive. Able to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines and agencies. Able to work independently, reliably and consistently Able to use own initiative Some research and audit skills Highly competent with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint General administrative experience within an office environment. Work with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities High standard of report writing. Experience using SPSS or other statistical packages An understanding of psychology applied to health care. Able to create spreadsheets, pivot tables, automated data analysis and easy to use reports. 5 TERMS AND CONDITIONS Grade and salary: Hours of work: Annual leave: Public Holidays: Superannuation: Band 4: 20,302-22,910 per annum pro rata 37.5 hours per week, Fixed Term for 12 months 27 Days per annum (pro rata) Details of other types of leave entitlement (such as sick leave) are set out in the Agenda for Change handbook. 8 days per annum (pro rata) on dates designated by NHS Borders The post-holder is entitled to join the NHS superannuation pension scheme.
