2 Head of Learning Enhancement Student Opportunity, Student Education Service Do you have a passion for learning enhancement, with the ability to encourage and support the development of external relationships in business, industry and local government? Do you want to play a significant role in shaping and driving new education opportunities? Working closely with the academic community, you will lead and manage strategic learning enhancement projects which aim to deliver an exceptional student experience and equip students with the knowledge, skills and attributes to be successful in their future lives and careers. In a highly external facing role, you will support the University s programme development strategy, and the implementation of new programme types and portfolios, such as Degree Apprenticeships and Executive Education. You will be a member of the Student Education Service (SES) programme leadership team, and you will have indirect responsibility for the operational processes which support Degree Apprenticeships. What does the role entail? As Head of Learning Enhancement your main duties will include: Maintaining an overview of external market opportunities, in consultation with Marketing and other relevant professional services teams, to serve as an initial point of contact for employers where appropriate, and to coordinate the University s response to these in the first instance; Managing the relationship with colleagues involved in the Nexus programme, ensuring that there is an effective exchange of information and coordination of external relationships, in order to maximise their value for students and further the University s educational mission; Maintaining an overview of external funding opportunities as they relate to educational innovation, employer engagement and skills, and coordinate the selection and preparation of proposals (for example, in connection with the HEFCE catalyst funds);

3 Working with colleagues in Faculties and Schools to develop and maintain relationships with employers to enhance the University s degree apprenticeship portfolio; Working with SES colleagues to establish the institutional policies, administrative processes and systems needed to meet the requirements of the external bodies overseeing our degree apprenticeship provision, eg the Institute for Apprentices and the Education and Skills Funding Agency; Responsibility for the relationship with the Education and Skills Funding Agency and Institute for Apprenticeships, and the institutional agreements and contracts which facilitate the delivery of apprenticeships, eg RoAAO, RoATP, etc; Working in collaboration with the Director of the Leeds Institute for Teaching Excellence, to identify and nurture educational partnerships between the University and other HE centres for teaching scholarship and to enable LITE projects which involve collaboration with employers; Leading or supporting other enhancements to the curriculum which will underpin the delivery of the Student Education Strategic plan. These duties provide a framework for the role and should not be regarded as a definitive list. Other reasonable duties may be required consistent with the grade of the post. What will you bring to the role? As Head of Learning Enhancement you will have: Education to degree level or equivalent; In-depth understanding of current developments in the Higher Education sector and the opportunities presented by them; Evidence of a commitment to partnership and collaborative working; Excellent leadership and people management skills applied to set-up, lead and motivate specific task-focussed teams involving colleagues at all levels of the organisation; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to present with clarity and confidence to senior university officers, external agencies and partner organisations, and to represent the University externally; An ability to grasp complex issues and to synthesise information into clear and balanced options for consideration by others;

4 Experience of building effective, sustainable networks at all levels, both within and beyond your organisation to deliver results; Resilience and adaptability with an ability to deal with change and ambiguity. You may also have: Knowledge of different models of delivery of HE programmes (online, part-time, work-based learning, degree apprenticeships, CPD); Experience of contributing to the development of an organisation with a strong service ethos and customer focus; Experience of managing the successful introduction of significant change in a large and complex organisation; Experience of writing successful bids for external funding to support the enhancement of education or service provision; Knowledge, and preferably successful application, of an effective project management methodology.
