1 Centre for Labour Market Studies Certificate of Higher Education in Lifelong Learning and Industrial Relations Period of Registration: Up to 2 years by distance learning Entry Requirements: Candidates will be expected to be qualified to A Level or equivalent. However, it is anticipated that typical applicants will be mature working adults with a wide range of skills and knowledge. Therefore, suitable alternative qualifications and appropriate work experience will be considered. In cases where English is not the first language, applicants will be expected to have IELTS 5.5 or equivalent. Course Aims: The programme will offer a curriculum that addresses the needs of Union Learning Representatives and others involved in workplace skills development. It will integrate materials on Industrial Relations and Lifelong Learning in order to build a critical understanding of current developments. It will provide a rigorous and structured introduction to these area that builds on the strengths of CLMS teaching and research interests. It will provide a pathway into higher education for mature, working adults. The programme aims to develop student s knowledge and understanding of relevant theory and practice in a way that makes them more effective in their current role and more employable. Curriculum: All candidates will study the following modules: LM15xx Academic Writing Skills O 0 LM15xx Education, Training and Skills LM15xx Management and Labour LM15xx Learning in Theory and Practice LM15xx Trade Union Organisation and Action LM15xx Globalisation and Skills LM15xx Learning as a Bargaining Issue Each module will be assessed by a written assignment of 3,000 to 4,000 words. Candidates who have successfully completed 120 credits and met all of the assessment requirements for each module will be awarded a Certificate in Lifelong Learning and Industrial Relations. Diploma in Training and Development Period of Registration: Up to two years distance learning. Entry requirements: Candidates will be expected to have either: (i) The CLMS undergraduate Certificate (or equivalent relevant qualification), OR (ii) A good standard of general education ( A level or equivalent) plus demonstrable professional competence gained from a minimum of three years relevant work Course Aims: To examine the theory and practice of training and development and the learning process. The programme is particularly suitable for professionals interested in developing human resources. 2 (i) Each of modules LM2501, LM2502, LM2503, LM2505 and LM2506 (listed above) is assessed by an assignment of 3,000-4,000 words. (ii) The final module LM3502 is assessed by a report of 2,000-3,000 words. (iii) Candidates may be permitted to resubmit the written assignments for one or more of the modules as required by the examiners. (i) (ii) Candidates who satisfactorily complete the assessment requirements for each of the modules will be awarded a Diploma. Candidates who wish to study for the B.Sc. in Human Resource Management may use successful completion of the Diploma in Training and Development to progress to the 3 rd year of the B.Sc. Diploma in Human Resource Management Period of Registration: Up to two years distance learning. Candidates who wish to study for the B.Sc. in Human Resource Management may use successful completion of the Diploma in Human Resource Management to progress to the 3 rd year of the B.Sc. B.Sc. in Human Resource Management (Top-Up programme) Period of Registration: A minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 4 years by distance learning for the B.Sc. year. Note: Students may progress from the CLMS certificate level course to the diploma level course, and from there onto the B.Sc. top up. The maximum period of registration for a student progressing through the entire three level programme is 8 years, by distance learning. Entry Requirements: Completion of a CLMS diploma level programme or equivalent qualification. Course Aims: the Programme aims to:

3 provide a stimulating and challenging learning experience for those who are want to develop a career in the human resource management; provide a rigorous and relevant human resource (HR) syllabus that is based upon the Centre's research expertise; develop students' (working adults') underpinning knowledge for continuing professional development in HR; enable students to combine research and theoretical knowledge with professional application. Curriculum: Candidates will study the two core modules and three options selected from those listed below: LM35xx Research Methods LM3505 E Learning and HRM O 20 LM3503 Labour Market Analysis and HRM O 20 LM3504 Industrial Relations and HRM O 20 LM35xx High Performance Work Practices O 20 LM35xx Dissertation C 40 (i) Modules LM3503, LM3504, LM3505, LM53xx (Research Methods) and LM35xx (High Performance Work Practices) will be assessed by written assignments of words (ii) Module LM53xx (Dissertation) will be assessed by a thesis of 9,000 words Qualifications Awarded (i) Successful completion of the level 3, B.Sc. one year full-time equivalent programme will lead to the award of a B.Sc. in Human Resource Management. (ii) It is not possible to obtain a Certificate, Diploma and B.Sc. from the same course of study. M.Sc./Postgraduate Diploma/Postgraduate Certificate in Human Resource Development and Performance Management Course Aims: To place new developments in the field of performance management, and the increasing demand for HRD practitioners to act as learning consultants, in their intellectual and practical context, and so provide students with an understanding of the sources of change which are leading to the transformation of their roles. 5 M.Sc./Postgraduate Diploma/Postgraduate Certificate in Industrial Relations and Human Resources Course Aims: To meet the learning and professional development needs of practitioners, managers, researchers and policy-makers involved in employee relations either from the perspective of the individual or the organisation, by combining a more traditional focus on industrial relations with human resource development and management; to provide students with knowledge and skills relevant to address the significant changes which are taking place in the work of HR professionals. 7 (iii) Candidates who accumulate 180 credits, satisfactorily complete the assessment requirements for each of (ii) No candidate may be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate, the Postgraduate Diploma and the Master's degree. M.Sc./Postgraduate Diploma/Postgraduate Certificate in Skills and Performance British university or its equivalent; or hold the University of Leicester Diploma in Training and Development or Diploma in Human Resource Management successfully completed to the required level; or have an approved professional qualification coupled with suitable professional Course Aims: To place training and human resource management and development within its national and international context; to study the ways in which HRD is closely related to human resource topics such as recruitment, performance appraisal, teamwork and motivation; to equip course members with the professional knowledge and skills relevant to the management of training and human resources. 8 (iii) Candidates who accumulate 180 credits, satisfactorily complete the assessment requirements for each of (ii) No candidate may be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate, the Postgraduate Diploma and the Master's degree. Masters by Research by Distance Learning Period of Registration: Up to two years by Distance Learning Entry Requirements: Applicants will normally be expected to have achieved an Honours degree in the Social Sciences to the level of 2:1 or equivalent. Where applicants do not use English as their first language, they will normally, in addition, need to demonstrate that they meet the University s English Language proficiency requirements for postgraduate entry as outlined in the Regulations for Matriculation. Programme Aims: The programme aims to provide graduates with knowledge and understanding of research methods and training in the social sciences, as well as provide them transferable skills such as communication, self-management and planning. The programme includes training in the principles and skills of social research, qualitative and quantitative design and methods of data collection and analysis and the support to carry out a research project in an organisational setting. Furthermore, it aims to equip students with the research skills needed for advanced social science research at doctoral level. Curriculum: All candidates will study the following modules: LM7511 Introduction to Masters by Research LM7512 Quantitative Methods and Analysis LM7xxx Qualitative Methods and Analysis LM7513 Thesis/Dissertation C* 120 * Compulsory only for the degree of Masters by Research. (i) Modules LM7512, LM7511 and LM75xx will be assessed by assignments of words. (ii) Module LM7513 will be assessed by a thesis of words on a suitable topic of empirical study. (i) Candidates who accumulate 60 credits from the taught component of the course (LM7511, LM7512 and LM7xxx) and satisfactorily complete the assessment requirements for each module will be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Research Methods. (ii) Candidates who accumulate 180 credits, satisfactorily complete the assessment requirements for each of the modules and submit a satisfactory dissertation will be awarded the degree of Master of Research. (i) The degree of Master of Research may be awarded with either distinction or merit where specified levels of (ii) No candidate may be awarded both the Postgraduate Certificate and the Master's degree.
