1 RIICCM211D Erect and Dismantle Temporary Fencing and Gates Assessment Plan

2 Assessment Plan This document contains all details of how the assessment will be conducted and the resources required to complete the assessment. The task details, specific instructions to assessors and task checklists are available in the Final Practical Test Assessor Only document. Make sure all resources outlined within this plan are available before starting the final assessment. Assessment 1 Confirm Details of Fencing & Gates Erection & Dismantling Work The learner is required to read all relevant documentation for planning out the task and making sure work activity meets site or project requirements. The assessor will need to make sure all resources, information and documents are available for the purposes of the assessment and determine that the learner knows where to look for them on the work site. The assessor needs to ensure that any policies and procedures used during the assessment are relevant to the civil construction industry and make a note of the purpose of any document used. 1 set of task instructions or a plan for the erection of a temporary fence. 1 project document that identifies quality requirements (may be included with the work instructions or in a civil construction plan). 1 copy of health and safety guidelines relevant to the task and site operations (may be code of practice, Australian standard or regulations). 1 copy of emergency procedures relevant to the site. 3 Assessment 2 Inspect the Work Area and Prepare for Operations The learner is required to identify, report and manage hazards in the work area at a basic level, using predetermined control methods and techniques outlined in task instructions or safety documentation. At a minimum hazards that should be identified and managed during this assessment should include: Selection of PPE. Traffic control and site isolation. Space or Location Requirements: There should be enough space to allow a learner to walk around the work area to properly simulate or carry out the actual task of hazard identification. Environmental Considerations: Any environmental hazards or issues identified need to be managed as appropriate. All details of environmental protection measures implemented during the assessment need to be documented. Reporting of hazards needs to be demonstrated. This may be achieved through the use of a form (such as a Take-5 or equivalent) or verbally. Details of verbal reporting need to be documented by the assessor. Work instructions outlining control measures for common hazards related to the task. Personnel protective equipment relevant to the task including a minimum of: High-vis clothing. Safety helmet. Safety boots. Barricades and signage for traffic control and site isolation. Civil Force Training Assessment Plan Page 3

4 Assessment 3 and 4 Erect and Dismantle Temporary Fencing and Gates The learner is required to erect and dismantle a minimum of 40m of temporary fencing. All tasks should reflect common fencing and isolation activities carried out in civil construction projects. This will include: Selecting and inspecting tools, equipment and fencing materials to carry out the task and reporting defects. Setting out and erecting a minimum of 40m of temporary fence, gates and signs. Dismantling the temporary fence, gates and signs. Space or Location Requirements: The work area should be adequately isolated from any other operations for the duration of the assessment. The location needs to be large enough to allow a fence to be constructed around a work area no smaller than 100m 2. The temporary fencing task needs to reflect realistic work requirements and civil construction projects. The dimensions, type and complexity of tasks needs to be consistent with jobs that a person found competent in this unit would be expected to work on. The learner is required to: Complete a fault report. Isolate defective equipment in line with site or common civil construction safety requirements. Note: If no fault is identified the assessor needs to give the learner a scenario where defective, damaged or faulty equipment has been identified and ensure that they complete a fault report to reflect the details provided in the scenario. 1 fencing plan showing the measurements of and dimensions of the fencing required. Tools and equipment needed to complete the task (select form the list): Measuring tapes and rulers. Twitches. Brush cutters. Screwdrivers. Stops. Nail guns. Socket wrenches. Docking saws. Pop riveters. Fencing wire. Wire spinners. Posts. Jigs. Squares. Rails. Levelling equipment. Pliers and wire cutters. Cladding. String lines. Hammers. Mesh. Clamps. Power drills and bits. Panels. Fencing strainers. Drop saws. Gates. Signage. Anchor points (concrete blocks, anchor bolts, sandbags). Other: Fault report form. Civil Force Training Assessment Plan Page 4

5 Assessment 5 Restore the Work Area and Process Records The learner needs to demonstrate how to clear the work area of any tools, equipment or materials that are no longer needed. The task needs to reflect real world expectations taking into account civil construction project requirements and work sequences. All tools and equipment must be cleaned, checked and maintained. Defective equipment needs to be isolated appropriately and a fault report needs to be completed. All other equipment needs to be stored correctly according to manufacturer s specifications and site procedures. Environmental Considerations: Cleaning needs to be done is a designated area that does not have a negative impact on the environment through the use and disposal of cleaning agents. Completion of a fault report. Completion of isolation of defective equipment in line with site or common civil construction safety requirements. Note: If no fault is identified the assessor needs to give the learner a scenario where defective, damaged or faulty equipment has been identified and ensure that they complete a fault report to reflect the details provided in the scenario. Tools and equipment used throughout the tasks. Cleaning equipment or product. Fault report document. Relevant civil construction housekeeping records (Assessor must identify the type and purpose of any written records that need to be processed). Civil Force Training Assessment Plan Page 5
