Purpose of Job/Key objectives To lead all aspects of the management of the gallery operation, ensure robust security and the best quality of visitor experience, to play a key role in further building Turner Contemporary s reputation as a world class visitor destination. Principal Responsibilities Operations 1. Lead and develop Turner Contemporary s security arrangements, including implementation of security training and drills 2. Ensure safety of all visitors to Turner Contemporary, with responsibility for implementation of the Health and Safety policy across the organisation 3. Review, develop, and implement all operational procedures to ensure that they are effective, represent best practice and are properly adhered to across the organisation 4. Responsible for Fire Safety, First Aid, Disability Awareness, Customer Care, and other statutory obligations ensuring necessary training and staff cover are in place at all times

2 5. Be the main point of contact with the Fire and Police when necessary, as well as with relevant contractors 6. Ensure accessibility for all visitors 7. Support organisational and exhibition planning to ensure effective and cost effective operational delivery 8. Ensure the professional operational delivery of key events and activities, including commercial hires and public events, both during and outside of normal gallery opening hours Visitor Experience 1. Ensure the highest levels of visitor experience is delivered at all times 2. Ensure that all visitor facing staff are fully trained and motivated to deliver and maintain a high standard of service. Regularly monitoring the quality of the visitor experience and utilise feedback to ensure continuous improvement and efficiency in line with VAQAS 3. Ensure that spaces are appropriately staffed and presented at all times to satisfy extremely high levels of security and customer care 4. Monitor and manage the display and presentation of visitor information and signage at Front of House and in public areas, liaising with the Programming, Development and Communications staff as necessary 5. Oversee the on-going and effective collection of visitor feedback through Exit Surveys in partnership with Canterbury Christ Church University Finance 1. Monitor and control spend within designated budget codes and to advise Head of Learning and Visitor Experience on budget needs for future planning purposes 2. Work creatively to ensure best use of resources, and to contribute to the organisation s sustainability Other 1. To work flexibly regarding availability outside normal working hours e.g. to attend events, openings and meetings 2. Carry out any other duty as directed by the line manager in accordance with the level of the post NB this job description may be amended from time to time in consultation with the postholder. Key Conditions of Service Salary: Contract of Employment: 25,000-32,000 depending on experience Permanent Position

3 Probationary period: 6 months Annual Leave: Location: Full time 25 days plus 8 Bank Holidays (Total 33 days) Turner Contemporary Offices, Margate, Kent. The post-holder is required live within 30 minutes of Turner Contemporary. Full time (37.5 hrs) from Tuesday to Saturday, and including some work on Sundays and evenings Created: 29 May 2015

4 Person Specification Specification Essential Desirable Qualifications and licences: Degree or equivalent in arts, tourism or other relevant subject Health and Safety qualification First aid at work training Security Industry Authority Licence Skills: People management skills and experience including performance management Motivational and engaging leadership Professional events management Great customer service skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Numerate, literate and possessing good IT skills Work Experience: Experience of a high quality visitor operation with a sound understanding of best practice in visitor management in a public access building Experience of overseeing robust security procedures, their implementation and related training Experience of managing health and safety in a public access building Setting and improving standards of performance for individuals and operations
