2 The Human Rights Context u The PSC1 standard is infused with human rights the words appear 130 times in the document! u Provides the business case for human rights u Enabling private security companies (PSCs) to provide quality services while maintaining the safety and security of their operations and clients within a framework that aims to ensure respect for human rights, national and international laws, and fundamental freedoms u Respect for human rights and humanitarian law minimizes the risk of undesirable and disruptive events but also value added through a continual improvement process u Realizable: PSCs already understand management standards u End goal: A shift in corporate culture so that respect for rights is embedded in all aspects of corporate values, management systems, governance, and operations.
