1 Induction checklist This checklist of activities has been designed as a starting point/guide. Not all items on the checklist will be applicable to every individual job, and in these cases the manager can indicate. On the first day Discussed the University s mission, vision and values Discussed the department/section and its role in MMU Discussed department customs and practices, dress code, social activities Given ID card Shown facilities (toilet facilities, food and drink facilities, entrances and exits to use) Explained car parking and staff travel information Discussed security of possessions Explained location of fire drill and alarm, location of fire exits and assembly points (including evacuation of disabled staff/students) Checked whether the individual requires a personal evacuation plan (PEEP) Explained accident reporting procedure Discussed any protective clothing/equipment Explained computer and account set up and given access details Explained location of multi-faith rooms

2 During the first week Discussed the department objectives Discussed the individual s role: job description, requirements and expectations If the individual is a line manager, discussed management responsibilities Discussed any reasonable adjustments required for the role for those who have declared a disability (opportunity to issue disclosure guidance where necessary) Checked whether the individual has any underlying health issues that require support Discussed the importance of reading and ensuring familiarity with the terms set out in the University s IT policies, particularly Acceptable Use and the Information Security Policy If the individual receives a mobile device as part of their role you should discuss the terms set out in the Mobile Device Security Policy Read and sign off the agreement accompanying the device (provided by IT Services) Discussed probation arrangements, expectations, objectives and review dates Obtained names and contact details for key contacts in HR, Payroll, IT helpdesk, etc Advised of access to intranet, internet, IT systems and printers Explained telephone set up including intranet staff directory Identified safety representatives and designated first aiders Explained leave information using MyHR Explained pay day/payment systems using MyHR

3 During the first few weeks Explained local communication system (team meetings, regularity of 1:1s, noticeboards, etc) Explained University-wide communication (ManMetLife, all staff s, open meetings, briefings) Explained how to claim for travel/other expenses on University business using MyHR Explained how to get stationery and other supplies Explained special leave arrangements Explained the Professional Development Review Scheme and completed part 2 of the Scheme Explained how to apply for and record development opportunities For academic staff, discussed staff development to support teaching responsibilities (including registration on the PG Certificate in Academic Practice where applicable) Explained access to library resources Health and safety activities Carried out DSE assessment (where someone has a work station and desk area) Carried out COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) Assessment where necessary
