2 2. Summary of duties An opportunity has arisen for a Partnership Development Coordinator China (maternity cover) within the Education Institutions Team of The Open University Worldwide Ltd. We are looking for candidates with Chinese Mandarin as their native language or as a fluent second language both written and spoken to assist the Business Development Manager China in partnership development and management of projects in China. You will have strong customer service skills, an analytical, methodical mind, with a keen eye for detail and enjoy working in an environment where you can apply your excellent organisational skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing written translations of documents, and oral interpretation skills for visiting / training events is an advantage. You should be able to conduct relevant research in Chinese language, and have knowledge of appropriate communication styles with Chinese organisations and personnel. The successful candidate should be educated to degree level or have a good level of general education and will be required to quickly establish effective working relationships with Partner Institutions to ensure that appropriate services are delivered. Position Purpose: To provide proactive support to the Business Development Manager (China) and prospective partnerships. To develop a working knowledge of partnerships, in particular capacity building and licensing n validation partnerships. To be responsible for services to partners in a customer-orientated manner, ensuring that commitment in MOU or similar and any contractual requirements are met. To engage with University procedures and systems in order to provide effective support to existing partnerships. Responsibilities: 1. To work closely with the Business Development Manager - China to provide administrative and operational support for prospective overseas partnerships. Act as the point of communication for partner organisations responsible. Make sure that accurate records are kept in the filing system for partnership development and management. Liaise with the Visitor & Events Co-ordinator to co-ordinate events and visits to and from partners, ensuring all necessary documentation is dealt with. Support the development of partnerships. Support the account managements of partnerships. 2. To assist in research regarding potential partnership areas in Chinese language. 3. To provide written translation of documents and interpretation as required. 4. Build and maintain good relationships with key contacts in departments across the University, and with partnership organisations. The Open University, Human Resources, HRG158 Page 2 of 6

3 5. Liaise with OU staff to ensure the information and materials are delivered to the partners in a cost effective and timely manner. Prepare documentation as required and maintain accurate records. 6. Develop competence in the use of University systems that support partnership activity including PLANET, CIRCE MI, VOICE, SALESFORCE and others as may be required. 7. Support the development of contractual agreements including supplementary agreements, schedules and consultancy agreements. 8. To engage with the team of Partnership Co-ordinators proactively to continuously refine and improve procedures and to share best practice. 9. Develop cultural awareness and knowledge about the partner in order to communicate with them effectively and appropriately. 10. Assist with other partnership related activities as required. 3. Person specification Requirements (E = Essential/ D = Desirable) Education, qualifications and training Degree level education/good level of general eductaion - Essential Knowledge, work and other relevant experience Essential: Chinese mandarin as the native language or a fluent second language - written and spoken. Fluent English if not a native speaker. Good IT skills, especially Microsoft office packages Desirable: Personal abilities and qualities Essential: Excellent and diplomatic communication skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships across organisational boundaries and especially knowledge of approriate communication styles with Chinese organisations and personnel. 4 Desirable: Able to maintain effective management procedures and processes. Persistence and abillity to monitor progress of outstanding item/issue. 4. To do this it manages a balancing act: supporting teaching, learning and open access as well as funding and developing top level research. Competition for students, staff and funding is intense and global, and students expectations have risen sharply as learners increasingly view themselves as consumers of education. The demand for top class facilities and services is growing, as are expectations for flexible learning patterns and qualifications that will really make a difference to careers. To address these market factors, The Open University has developed ambitious plans to grow the number of students and associated revenues from students overseas through its commercial entity, Open University Worldwide (OUW). OUW currently generates revenues of around 18m from about 8,000 international students, with plans to increase these numbers significantly over the next five years. OUW Ltd is part of The Open University s Business Development Unit (BDU) The Business Development Unit The aim of the Business Development Unit is to create and implement a profitable commercial and international strategy for the Open University The BDU is working to construct and implement the overall business development strategy for the OU both in the UK and internationally. This activity includes improved partnerships with business development efforts in faculties and in the nations and regions. The unit has two core activity streams: To deliver sustainable net revenue streams for the OU through developing existing and as yet undeveloped new markets To be a customer-focused business, generating significant growth of revenue.
