1 Job Description General Details Job title: Faculty/School/Service: Normal Workbase: Tenure: Hours/FT: Director of International Recruitment and Development (CA17/04) Student and Academic Services Stoke Campus Permanent 1.0fte Date Prepared: 23 August 2017 Job Purpose To provide guidance and operational leadership for the International Student Recruitment and Development functions of the University. Working with the Pro Vice Chancellor (Student xperience), Senior Leadership Team and external stakeholders to develop and lead initiatives and activities relevant to the role that will enable the University to achieve the objectives of its Strategic Plan and associated strategies with a particular emphasis on international development and recruitment of international students. Relationships Reporting to: Responsible for: Pro Vice Chancellor (Student xperience) International Student Recruitment Team, Study Abroad and xchange, International Programmes Team, International Student Support. Key Internal Relationships: Deans of School and Management Teams Director of Collaborative Partnerships Director of Marketing & Public Relations Dean of Students, Registrar and staff within function Main Activities 1. Play a key role in the strategic leadership and management of the University and undertake University-wide senior management functions that are appropriate to the role. 2. Contribute to the business planning process and advise on the delivery of strategic objectives, in particular in relation to: Recruitment, progression and Admission of international students in line with University targets and adhering to UK Home Office policies and compliance procedures. Inward and outward mobility of staff and students; Delivery of nglish Language provision including progression pathways to degree programmes; income-generating short courses, including summer schools and in-sessional language support for

2 international students. Research into, and enhancement of, the international student experience. 3. To provide leadership for the UK based International Development team, developing and resourcing the diverse range of activities to meet the University s international aims. 4. To lead on the strategic and targeted use of resources to maximise returns on the University s investment in both internationalisation and income generation. 5. To work with the Pro Vice Chancellor (Student xperience) to advise the SLT on international issues, and to make recommendations. 6. To work with the Pro Vice Chancellor (Student xperience) to devise and recommend international policy and work with internal stakeholders to implement it. 7. To work with Schools and other Directorates to maintain effective communication and coordinated approaches to international activities across the University. 8. To work with Schools to ensure an appropriate range of student mobility and exchange opportunities and to optimise take-up of such opportunities. 9. To shape the activity of the International Programmes area to anticipate and meet new market demands, facilitate quality progression opportunities, and generate income. 10. To lead on developing a high-quality international student experience from first point of contact to graduation. 11. To be responsible for setting standards for international provision to ensure the highest possible levels of service to internal and external stakeholders. 12. Represent the University on appropriate committees and working groups at local, regional and national level in line with strategic and operational objectives and to build the University s reputation. 13. Line manage direct reports including setting objectives and monitoring performance, and maximise efficiency through the effective management of all resources, including financial and physical. 14. Provide intelligence and support for overseas visits including for example, political context, health considerations, local etiquette. 15. Support events and activities for international visitors to the University. Conditions of Service The post is subject to such terms and conditions of employment as negotiated between the Board of Governors of the University and the recognised trade unions, and/or the employees of the University.
