2 ADVERT DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR FULL TIME - PERMANENT The Wine Society is one of the country's leading wine merchants and stocks more than 1,500 wines, ranging from 5.25 to over 500 a bottle. We are a mutual selling only to our members and exist purely for their benefit. Member satisfaction is paramount; maximising profit is not. We re currently looking for a Database Administrator to join our talented team. With your help, we ll hone our technology and manage vital records. The main challenge is to design solutions that help users make the most of our systems. That means capturing business requirements, producing specifications and developing our databases. You ll support database functions by designing and coding utilities performance and security will both be critical issues. If necessary, you ll bring users up to speed with first class training. Educated to A-level standard, you ll be a skilled database professional. You can manage them, fine-tune them and maintain their security. Your technical skills cover Oracle and SQL Servers, plus SSIS and SSRS. And crucially, you bring excellent people skills too. Flexible, friendly and always ready to help, you ll solve problems and be great in a team.

3 THE WINE SOCIETY JOB DESCRIPTION Job title: Database Administrator Department: Information Systems Reports to: Systems Development Manager Responsible for: (Number of direct reports if any) N/A Job purpose: To work with business users and other IS staff to capture business requirements, produce specifications and develop databases in support of the overall business strategy. Main duties: Designing solutions to fulfil user and system data requirements Define, develop and sustain the database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications. Install revised or new systems by proposing specifications and flowcharts; recommend optimum access techniques; coordinating installation requirements. Maintain database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters to provide fast responses to end users; implementing new releases; completing maintenance requirements; evaluating computer operating systems and hardware products. Support database functions by designing and coding utilities. Prepare users by conducting training; providing information; resolving problems. Provide information by answering questions and requests. Maintain quality service by establishing and enforcing organisation standards. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
