Position Objectives The role of the Youth Development Coach is to support the engagement, skills development, personal capacity and progress towards employment of young people in the Transition to Work (TTW) program. Program Objectives The Transition to Work (TTW) program provides young job seekers aged with intensive one-on-one support to gain employment or to continue their education. 2 Annual Performance Review An annual performance review will be conducted using the Colony 47 Performance Management Process and is based on the Position Description. Work Review Records will be conducted at interim periods. The successful completion of both these processes is the responsibility of the employee and their manager. Enterprise Bargaining Agreement Employees are covered by the Labour Market Assistance Industry 2010 and the Colony 47 Enterprise Bargaining Agreement Stakeholders Internal Stakeholders Other staff within the Transition to Work program Other staff within Colony 47 External Stakeholders Local specialist agencies State Government agencies Federal agencies Local employers Local networks and working groups Participants and their families Level of Responsibility and Supervision The TTW Youth Development Coach is expected to have a high level of self-motivation and initiative and carry out the Key Tasks and Duties with limited or no direct supervision. Key Tasks and Duties (feeds into Performance Review Process) 1. Transition to Work Program Delivery Adhere to the TTW Operational Plan and associated policies, guidelines and practice guides and support the development and delivery of professional learning programs for participants Provide vocational guidance tailored to the participant s goals Work with participants to help identify their education and employment goals, and to develop their Jobs Plan Assess participants skills, capabilities and non-vocational barriers Connect participants to specialist agencies and ensure support and follow-up Run and facilitate workshops and individual and group coaching sessions Work with complementary service providers to keep participants focussed on their goals Human Resources Page 2 of 5

3 Support participants in job search activities, and facilitate volunteering opportunities Continue to provide feedback and post-placement support, to ensure employment or education is sustained Address participation issues as they arise, and manage participant dynamics and complex needs Maintain accurate and timely records in the Department of Employment, and Colony 47, datacapture systems Support the management of the day-to-day operations of the TTW program, to ensure annual operating plans and key performance indicators are achieved Support and maintain a culture of developing positive language and talent-building 2. Program Quality, Improvement and Innovation Ensure that data is collected in line with the program s evaluation requirements as set by Colony 47, to adhere to compliance requirements by the Department of Employment, and to support the efficiency and effectiveness of the program Ensure all relevant policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to, including the complaints handling procedures and methods for responding to critical incidents Assist in ways to capture, communicate and share innovative ideas and practices Foster a culture of excellence in service delivery Adhere to Colony 47 s administrative and financial systems, policies and procedures Assist in monitoring and maintaining records of expenditure within the program Support the monitoring and management of risk and OHS systems 3. Partnership and Stakeholder Relations Develop and maintain strong relationships within Colony 47, and with a wide range of external stakeholders Connect participants to the right opportunities, resources, people and places to develop their talents and achieve their goals Assist in collaboration to ensure that the TTW program is integrated within the community in harnessing the community effort Support networks and relationships that lead to educational and employment opportunities for participants 4. Personal and Team Effectiveness Keep current with local labour market and trends Work effectively as part of a supportive and cohesive team and participate in teamwork to enhance the delivery of services to participants, including the orientation and integration of new staff to the program Contribute to good team communication and client outcomes by working professionally and cooperatively with all organisational staff Human Resources Page 3 of 5

4 Participate in performance management planning and appraisal processes in which service objectives and professional development needs are discussed and determined Promote adherence to Colony 47 s core values 5. Multi-skilling The Youth Development Coach may be directed to carry out such duties as are within the level of the position and scope of the incumbent s competence and training as directed by their Manager Work within the team to provide support and assistance as required to meet objectives Position Requirements Qualifications Relevant degree with considerable experience; (highly regarded) or Associate Diploma with considerable experience; or Qualifications in more than one discipline; or Less formal qualifications with specialised skills sufficient to perform at this level; or Attainment of equivalent level of skills to undertake the range of activities required through previous appointments, service and/or study An employee without formal qualifications and/or training or equivalent skills may be required to undertake relevant study or training. Communication Interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, that are clear, concise, timely and valuesbased. 5 Technical/Professional Possess the professional or technical skills needed to perform the Key Tasks and Duties outlined in this Position Description. Demonstrated capacity to apply sound judgment in making decisions and draw on factual information from a range of accessible sources. Additional Requirements: Current manual driver s licence is highly desirable. Satisfactory National Police Check & Working with Vulnerable People Check (arranged after the interview process Key Selection Criteria 1. A depth of knowledge about the causes and consequences of youth unemployment and the kinds of strategies that are successful in helping young people follow pathways to work. 2. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills to liaise and build relationships with a broad range of people at all levels and from diverse backgrounds. 3. Experience in career planning and guidance. 4. Strong organisational and time-management skills and the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines. 5. Highly developed administration and computer skills and competency in Microsoft Programs. 6. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as an effective team member to achieve goals. 7. Experience of working in innovative programs that focus on holistic outcomes. 8. Experience in learning and community development, in particular for young people. 9.
