1 Information Pack The following Information Pack provides details on the position of with and the attributes that are sought in a successful candidate. It comprises the Job Advertisement, Job Description, the Person Specification, the Terms and Conditions for the position and information on the Application Process. Job Advertisement, the representative and support body for early education and care in Ireland, wishes to appoint the following: (full-time permanent) The Job The Manager will drive ECI s presence in the public arena through traditional and social media. Reporting to the Director of Policy and Advocacy, the post holder will monitor relevant developments, interface with the media, and ensure that our public presence makes an important contribution to the realisation of our strategic goals. The Person The successful candidate will have at least 5 years experience of engaging with or within both traditional and social media. He/she will have excellent organisational, communications and interpersonal skills and be dependable and flexible. 2 Job Description (ECI) is the representative and support body for early education and care in Ireland. As the leading membership organisation in the sector, with over 3,500 members, our vision is that every young child is thriving and learning in quality early childhood settings. Job Title: Reports to: Director of Policy and Advocacy Contract: Full-time, permanent Job Purpose The purpose of the position is to help deliver national and regional media, as well as social media coverage, for. You will use a whole range of media and communications skills and channels to generate proactive media coverage, spotting media and communications opportunities as well as working on reactive media and communications stories. The role is fast paced and demanding, working across a range of activities from preparing press releases and organising interviews, to liaising with media contacts and monitoring media coverage of the organisation, to developing and managing a focused and ambitious social media presence, and working to deliver communications campaigns to further the policy and advocacy aims of Early Childhood Ireland. The position will contribute to the implementation of ECI s Strategic Plan, focusing particularly on the achievement of ECI s advocacy objectives, as well as our communications with members and other stakeholders within the early years education and care sector. The Manager is a key member of the Policy and Communications Team, but will serve as a resource and contributor throughout the organisation. Responsibilities The will have the following responsibilities: General Implement relevant aspects of ECI s Strategic Plan, monitor its implementation and advise on the further development of ECI s strategy. Devise and implement a Press and Social Media Plan that contributes to the advocacy and communications objectives of ECI. Ensure consistency and coherence of ECI s messaging and presence in the public sphere and within the sector, across traditional and social media. Organise and manage ECI press events, including photocalls and launches, and contribute to and manage the outward-facing aspects of key ECI events, such as the annual conference. Lead or contribute to the design, co-ordination and running of relevant ECI campaigns, focusing particularly on traditional and social media aspects. Contribute to ECI s communications with its members and the wider sector, including the Early Times Weekly. Contribute to the generation and dissemination of appropriate information and promotional materials, including online resources, leaflets and presentations. Contribute to the generation and maintenance of relevant resources on ECI s Website. 2

3 Promote ECI, its members and the sector at relevant outside events. Contribute to ECI s management of critical events or public concerns. Prepare articles, briefings and other materials on relevant matters for individuals and organisations. Organise and deliver media, social media and public relations training for relevant personnel from ECI and its members, as required. Media Act as the immediate interface and build a positive relationship between the media and ECI. Monitor the treatment of early education and care in the media, across radio, TV and print, and in wider public and political arenas and respond, as appropriate. Draft, edit and issue press releases, as directed by the Director of Policy and Advocacy. Arrange media interviews involving appropriate ECI personnel, including the CEO, other senior staff and identified ECI members, and brief and prepare them in advance. Represent ECI in the media and other relevant arenas from time to time, as directed by the Director of Policy and Advocacy. Monitor ECI s public profile and brand, including its media presence and performance. Social Media Develop, manage and drive ECI s social media presence. Source and develop suitable content that fits with ECI s branding and social media messaging. Proactively promote ECI positions and messages using appropriate social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) to reach and involve differentiated target audiences, within the sector and in the wider public sphere. Monitor and analyse ECI s social media presence, using suitable analytical tools and metrics, and continually respond and re-shape this presence accordingly. Other At all times undertake the role in a professional manner, maintaining a high quality standard of work, in accordance with the aims, values and ethos of ECI. Undertake any other such relevant duties as may from time to time arise and are considered appropriate. 3

4 Person Specification All of the following requirements are essential, unless marked with a * when they are deemed desirable attributes. Education and Qualifications A Level 8 Degree or equivalent academic qualification. Masters level qualification in a relevant field*. Knowledge and Understanding The post-holder should have knowledge and understanding of: The media landscape. The role, influence, trends, metrics and development of social media. Government, politics and current affairs. Early childhood education and care*. The Community and Voluntary Sector*. Skills and Experience At least 5 years experience of engaging with or working in broadcast or print media. At least 5 years experience of using social media to advance organisational objectives. Excellent writing and editing skills. Excellent verbal communications and presentation skills. Ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure. Ability to identify and plan key areas of work. Ability to establish priorities and manage a complex workload in order to meet tight deadlines. Ability to build and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, members and external personnel. Ability to work effectively as part of a team in pursuit of common goals, as well as to work independently. Management experience*. Personal Attributes and Qualities Dependable and flexible. 5 Terms and Conditions Press & Social Media Manager Information Pack Employer Location Tallaght, Dublin 24 This is a full-time post reporting to the Director of Policy and Advocacy. The contract is permanent and full time and the probation period is six months. A basic salary in the range 45k 55k is offered. The starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A pension contribution of 6% on successful completion of probation period is provided. There is a holiday entitlement of 25 days Hours of Work: 35 hour working week. The position may require participation in meetings/events in the evenings and at the weekends. You must be willing and able to work outside office hours as required. Garda Vetting is a requirement of this post.
