HR HOUSTON S PROPOSAL FOR PRESENTATION (This proposal form may not be altered and must be completed in its entirety) Do not use this form to propose a session for HR Houston Monthly Meetings INFORMATION ABOUT HR HOUSTON HR Houston is one of the largest local affiliate chapters of the 250,000 member Society of Human Resource Management. With over 1,700 members in the Greater Houston area, HR Houston sponsors monthly meetings offering professional development sessions, stand-alone workshops and seminars, and an annual conference. The purpose of this form is to gather standardized information from all potential Gulf Coast Symposium presenters/speakers. This form must be completed to be considered for a presentation at the Gulf Coast Symposium on HR Issues. HR Houston is particularly interested in educational presentations that meet the curriculum and standards for HRCI credits the standard for recertification for the PHR, SPHR, and GPHR designations as established by the Human Resource Certification Institute. PRESENTATION OPPORTUNITIES GULF COAST SYMPOSIUM ON HR ISSUES (Conference) A two-day regional conference with multiple speakers and topics offered as concurrent sessions The 2011 Gulf Coast Symposium on HR Issues is scheduled for May at Reliant Center. As 2011 marks the 20 th anniversary of the Symposium, the theme for the conference is "20 Years of HR Leadership." Our keynote speakers are David Ulrich, PhD, HR thought leader; and Chester Elton, coauthor of the best-selling Carrot books. The submission deadline for speaker proposals for the 2011 conference is September 17, In 2010, the Symposium featured 100 concurrent sessions approved by HRCI for recertification credit and hosted 150 sponsor and exhibitor booths in the exhibit hall. Over 1,100 HR professionals attended the conference. EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS AT SELECTED MONTHLY CHAPTER MEETINGS throughout the year. To be considered, complete the Monthly Meeting Proposal Form. SELECTION PROCESS A typical conference segment is 60 minutes and may be repeated. Presentations by or including practitioners are given special consideration. Submit your completed proposal online; describe your presentation carefully. The description and objectives will be submitted to and reviewed by HRCI to determine approval for recertification credit. 1

2 Submitted materials will be reviewed for content, quality and relevance to HR Houston s program goals. Incomplete submissions will not be considered. HR Houston will check professional references to verify presentation quality and skills. If the proposal is accepted, you will receive an invitation to participate with information regarding the schedule and other information relevant to your presentation. MARKETING POLICY HR professionals attend chapter events to further their knowledge on the latest HR trends and to learn techniques relevant to their jobs. Chosen speakers agree to refrain from promoting their products or services during their presentations. HR Houston believes that knowledgeable speakers who provide their audiences with practical information on important issues in a professional manner will attract those interested in products and services of their own accord. HRCI will not grant recertification credit for sales/marketing presentations. In the interest of our members, the marketing policy includes, but is not limited to, the following: Logo and contact information on handouts is limited to the last slide or handout page ONLY. Selling, raffling off or drawings for products or services are NOT allowed in the sessions. Soliciting attendee contact information for any purpose is not allowed. SPEAKER HANDOUTS HANDOUTS FOR SESSION ATTENDEES: New for 2011, attendees will have the ability to download submitted presentation documents from an online, password-protected web page prior to the event. HOWEVER, because this is a new process, we anticipate that session attendees may still have an expectation and desire for handouts. Handouts are not required, but a large majority of speakers provide them and attendees greatly appreciate their consideration. Speakers are responsible for providing their own handouts. ONLINE DIRECTORY OF SYMPOSIUM PROCEEDINGS FOR CONFERENCE ATTENDEES (replaces Conference CD-ROM): New for 2011, the Symposium will produce an online, password-protected web page available to registered attendees that features speakers' materials. Prior to the event, attendees will have the ability to download the presentation document that you submit. In return for providing your presentation document, you can include marketing material as the final page of your document. Contributing your presentation document increases your visibility and insures that Symposium participants are able to pass your concepts on to others in their company. It also provides a way for people to contact you after the event should their company be interested in your expertise and services. POWERPOINT PRESENTATION TEMPLATE: If your proposal is accepted, HR Houston will provide a standard PowerPoint presentation template for all Symposium presentations. SPEAKER FEES & EXPENSES HR Houston does not pay speaker fees or reimburse expenses for the majority of the speaking opportunities. Travel arrangements are the responsibility of the speaker. SYMPOSIUM REGISTRATION If selected as a presenter at the Symposium, you may attend the entire conference at no charge including all Keynote addresses, educational sessions and social events. 2

APPROVAL FOR HRCI CREDIT HR Houston is an approved provider of continuing education hours for PHR, SPHR, and GPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute. For more information on certification or recertification, visit STRATEGIC CREDIT. Please be aware that HRCI has very specific criteria regarding approval of presentations for Strategic (SPHR) credit. If you are interested in having your session designated as strategic, you may find it useful to review the criteria for Strategic Management described in the PHR/SPHR Body of Knowledge.
