Volunteering can be a great way to develop those skills. Helen Feltham, Director UK Retail HR Great Riwayat Volunteers Thank you for your interest in being a volunteer at PFW11 London this May. At Riwayat we are very proud of the contribution which volunteers have made in the past and we value their work greatly. At Pakistan Fashion Week 10 around 100 volunteers were the backbone of the event whose contribution created a hugely successful show. We are confident to say that many of the volunteers in the past have gone on to establish strong links with the fashion and media industry, and we believe that Riwayat supported and contributed to that process. 2 Job Title: Designer Assistants Position reports to allocated Designer & Volunteer Coordinator The purpose of this role is to support the designer before, during and after their collection is showcased on the ramp. Assist & support designer in managing their collections Prepare and display outfits for ramp & exhibition Steaming garments Assist / Dresser in fittings with models Man designer s stalls in the boutique lounge Undertake research to become knowledgeable on your assigned designer Ability to carefully follow instructions whilst taking initiative at the same time Work under pressure to tight deadlines Good people skills Ability to work as part of large team and when required on a one to one basis Please note volunteers will be required to stay late on Sunday to ensure that the Designers Lounge is cleared up and all designers gear is packed up. This role is most likely to appeal to volunteers with an interest in fashion or fashion design students, however all applications will be considered. 1

3 Job Title: Receptionist Position reports to Reception Manager & Volunteer Coordinator The purpose of this role is to be the first point of contact with all incoming traffic to the event offering a friendly welcome. First face of Pakistan Fashion Week Welcome and receive all visitors to the event Ensure all volunteers, visitors, press and guests are logged in with relevant checks (passes, tickets etc) On door sale of tickets to the exhibition and or show Friendly and polite with polished communications skills Well organised & efficient Able to deal with difficult customers Ability to handle cash and credit card income Please note volunteers will be required to stay late on Sunday to ensure that the reception area is cleared up. This role is most likely to appeal to volunteers with an interest in direct communication and contact with the general public and will require the volunteer to have an outgoing personality, however all applications will be considered. 2

4 Job Title: Ushers Position reports to Front of House Manager & Volunteer Coordinator The purpose of this role is to facilitate in crowd control within the auditorium and general management of the area before, during and after the show. Welcome visitors Ensure that the auditorium is prepared for this shows; cleared, seats numbered & literature distributed Guide & assist visitors to their seats in the auditorium Ensure audience is seated in their allocated ticketed seat Maintain a presence within the auditorium during the show Ensure photographers are contained within the marked media areas Usher crowds from the auditorium in a prompt and orderly fashion after the show Ensure all fire exists are kept clear and be familiar with exit route Ability to interact with public in a welcoming and friendly manner Work under pressure to tight deadlines Ability to deal with difficult members of the public and situations Ability to be assertive should the situation require it Please note volunteers will be required to stay late on Sunday to ensure that the auditorium is cleared up. This role is most likely to appeal to volunteers with an interest in public relations and event management or students studying event management and hospitality, however all applications will be considered. 3

5 Job Title: Guest Relations Host Position reports to allocated VIP Manager & Volunteer Coordinator The purpose of this role is to meet and greet media and VIP guests in the designated area ensuring they are well looked after. Receive and welcome media & VIP guests Look after your allocated guests during their stay Ensure only designated guests are in the VIP/Press areas Liaise with hospitality Escort VIP guests to their seats Excellent interpersonal skills A commitment to providing excellent customer care Good organisational & time management skills Ability to work as part of large team Ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure Please note volunteers will be required to stay late on Sunday to ensure that the VIP Lounge is cleared up. This role is most likely to appeal to volunteers with an interest in media communications or hospitality students, however all applications will be considered. 4

6 Job Title: Hair & Makeup Runner Position reports to Head Hair & Makeup Artist & Volunteer Coordinator The purpose of this role is to support and assist all hair and makeup staff in the backstage. Ensure all areas are kept clear and tidy Help to prepare workstations for hair and makeup artists Liaise between departments Arrange and manage meals Ability to carefully follow instructions whilst taking initiative at the same time Excellent interpersonal & communication skills Strong organisational and timekeeping skills Please note volunteers will be required to stay late on Sunday to ensure that the hair and makeup area is cleared up. This role is most likely to appeal to volunteers with an interest in hair & make up and/or backstage management, however all applications will be considered. 7 Job Title: Model s Chaperone Position reports to allocated Chaperone Manager & Volunteer Coordinator The purpose of this role is to support the models in looking after their needs as well as ensuring that all the models are meeting the expectations of the organisers. 8 Job Title: Female Model Dresser & Male Model Dressers Position reports to Backstage Manager & Volunteer Coordinator The purpose of this role is to support and assist the backstage manager and allocated model before, during and after the show. Assist & support Backstage manager Assist & support model in dressing and timekeeping Manage allocated model wardrobe Assist in the model dressing Assist in keeping the backstage area running smoothly Keep the backstage area tidy Strong communication skills Strong organisation & time management skills Ability to work as part of a large team Skilled in showing attention to detail and following instructions from designers & backstage manager Ability to work under pressure Please note volunteers will be required to stay late on Sunday to ensure that the Green room is cleared up. This role is most likely to appeal to volunteers with an interest in fashion or fashion design students, however all applications will be considered. 7

9 Job Title: Stage Coordinator Assistant Position reports to allocated Designer & Volunteer Coordinator The purpose of this role is to support and assist the backstage and stage manager whilst ensuring that the show flows smoothly. Liaise with all backstage departments Ensure models are ready for ramp Assist model entrance and exit on the runway Ensure time keeping during the show Ability to carefully follow instructions whilst taking initiative at the same time Assertive, well organised and strong time keeping skills Strong interpersonal skills Ability to work as part of large team This role is most likely to appeal to volunteers with an interest in fashion and or event management, however all applications will be considered. 8

10 Job Title: Wardrobe Assistants Position reports to allocated Backstage Manager & Volunteer Coordinator The purpose of this role is to support designers and backstage management by ensuring all garments are delivered on time. Transport designers collections from designers lounge to backstage in preparation for show Ensure all garments are transported without damage Ensure all garments are accounted for and returned back to the lounge safely Able to take responsible for expensive and valuable garments Timekeeping Strength and speed as garments can be very heavy Strong communications skills This role is most likely to appeal to male volunteers as it does involved heavy lifting, however all applications will be considered. Upon successfully fulfilling the role Riwayat will award a certificate of excellence. 9

11 Job Title: Boutique Lounge Sales Assistants Position reports to allocated Designer & Volunteer Coordinator The purpose of this role is to mann the designers stall in the Boutique Lounge before, during and after the Catwalk shows. Assist & support designer in unpacking and displaying their sales items Steaming garments for display Man the designer s stall during the event, dealing with customers and handling sales Undertake research to become knowledgeable on your assigned designer Ability to carefully follow instructions whilst taking initiative at the same time Work under pressure to tight deadlines Good people skills Good sales skills Ability to work as part of large team and when required on a one to one basis Please note volunteers will be required to stay late on Sunday to ensure that the Designers Lounge is cleared up and all designers gear is packed up.
