Since opening in 2011, Turner Contemporary has become one of the most successful galleries in the UK. We ve achieved more than 2.7 million visits and the gallery has been a catalyst for the regeneration of Margate. Located in a building designed by David Chipperfield Architects, on a site overlooking the North Sea, our programme of world-class events, exhibitions of historical and contemporary art and our innovative learning programme have fast earned the gallery an international reputation. With free admission, great art is accessible for all. We are committed to challenging traditional practice to make ourselves more accessible; repositioning art as more relevant to society. Our distinctive, audience-focused approach is integral to our success and inspires interest from our peers, nationally and internationally. Turner Contemporary is a charity governed by a Board of Trustees, chaired by Clive Stevens. The organisation receives revenue funding from Arts Council England and Kent County Council and the whole team works creatively to generate additional income. To deliver our ambitious vision and to develop our resilience and sustainability for the future, we need to increase and diversity earned income from our trading activities and secure significant annual fundraising targets. After more than seven successful years of operation, Turner Contemporary is working with stakeholders to develop an exciting capital scheme with more commercial opportunities to move the gallery on to the next stage of our development. In addition, we will be hosting the prestigious Turner Prize exhibition and awards ceremony in autumn

Visitor Services Assistants provide an exceptional experience and standard of service to every visitor promoting income generation for the gallery through sales and donations helping to ensure the sustainable future of Turner Contemporary. Turner Contemporary s retail department is operated through Turner Contemporary Enterprises. Principal Duties/Tasks and responsibilities Visitor Experience 1. Adopt and exhibit the three values of Turner Contemporary in every part of your role. 2. Create an enjoyable shopping experience for all customers and visitors. Actively sell products and donations to visitors as a way of supporting the work of Turner Contemporary. 3. Deal with all visitor enquiries and comments in a timely and efficient manner by ensuring full and up to date knowledge of Turner Contemporary s programme. 2

3 4. Actively engage visitors in the work of the organisation to encourage meaningful engagement and charitable giving. Advocate for the role of the organisation in local regeneration and be knowledgeable about other Margate attractions, events and projects. 5. Attend and contribute to team training, team meetings, briefings and project team meetings where appropriate. 6. Work on events and functions which could be at any time during the week, weekends, and bank holidays which may include anti-social hours. Daily Duties 1. Contribute to increasing conversion and spend per visitor by ensuring that the shop is fully stocked and well-presented to the highest possible standard on a daily basis. 2. Be pro-active in maximising sales through detailed product knowledge, add on sales and exceptional customer service to increase average transaction value. 3. Ensure all deliveries are checked, processed, products priced and stored in line with procedure. 4. Assist the Head of Retail in managing stock value by accurately completing regular stock takes. 5. Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent customer service. Welcome all customers, ascertain the needs of each individual and recommend products. 6. Handle all forms of payments and ensure best practice, reconcile daily sales in line with procedure. 7. Monitor online shop sales and process for delivery in a timely and efficient manner. 8. Participate in data capture and research exercises in line with the needs of the organisation. Regular training will be provided to enable staff to undertake this role. 3

4 9. Actively promote donations to support Turner Contemporary Undertake any other duties as reasonably directed. NB this job description is provided to assist the post holder to know their principal duties. It may be amended however from time to time in consultation with you, by or on behalf of the Director of Turner Contemporary without change to the level of responsibility appropriate to the grading of the post. Person Specification Specification Essential Desirable Skills: Desire to deliver excellent customer service at all times Confident in selling products to customers and building a good rapport Ability to learn and retain new information Ability to think creatively and work within a team to solve problems Work Experience: Experience in a customer facing role where: -engaging customers in meaningful exchanges are key -you have sold or promoted products or events Experience of cash handling Experience of using till systems Experience of meeting and exceeding sales targets Behaviours/characteristics: Positive, proactive and can-do approach to work Positive attitude to all visitors in line with Turner Contemporary s Equality and Diversity Policy. 4
