1 is now accepting applications for the position of FRENCH CULTURAL FACILITATOR / FRENCH IMMERSION (New position) Location: Learning Services Innovation Terms: Out of Scope, Level 3, 0.6 FTE, 10 month Salary: $26,416 - $33,020 Start Date: August 30, 2012 (or as determined with the successful candidate) The broad objective of the Cultural Facilitator role is to improve students' oral and listening comprehension in French and to increase their appreciation of French culture. The Cultural Facilitator will work directly with students and staff in 13 French Immersion schools. The successful candidate will be working in a Catholic environment and in an inclusive classroom setting and must be willing and capable of supporting our district s mission and foundation statements found on Primary Focus: The primary responsibilities of the job are: To provide students and staff with French cultural experiences; To create opportunities for students to interact in French and be exposed to what the French language and culture have to offer at the local, national and international level; To participate with teachers and administrators on numerous events; To offer opportunities that will encourage students to work on their oral performance and overall communication skills in French. Duties and Responsibilities include: Identify and plan cultural and language activities that promote oral expression for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 in French Immersion programs; Identify, plan, coordinate and/or host cultural activities or events to engage students of all ages; Consult with teachers and administrators to identify the specific needs in every school and plan activities accordingly; Conduct needs assessment and work with teachers to identify and/or facilitate areas for refinement; Work directly with students to involve them with language and cultural activities based on identified language goals; Participate in a variety of events or curriculum support by offering workshops, resources and/or French community contacts, making sure to infuse the French culture as much as possible in all aspects; Work with language consultants to align activities with the appropriate level of learner outcomes and incorporate the use of 21 st Century skills using the inquiry process whenever possible. Participate in short and long-term district wide planning as well as specific goals for each school. Job Qualifications: Fluent in French (speaking, listening, reading, writing); Degree or diploma in an area related to education or social sciences, plus three years of directly related experience; Understanding of what children and youth are interested in and what motivates them to particpate; Experience performing in front of audiences including children and youth; Experience coordinating and hosting large events; Ability to link goals of activity with curricular goals; Knowledge of Alberta Education system in general and French Language programming in particular; Knowledge of and connections with the French speaking community locally, nationally and internationally, and of the culture in general; Knowledge of program planning and project management techniques; General knowledge of the curririculum and an understanding of the district s operations; Knowledge of emerging multi-media technology and equipment, MicroSoft programs including Excel, Outlook and databases; Valid driver s licence and a vehicle for daily use. The broad objective of the job is to improve students oral and listening comprehension in French and to increase their appreciation of French culture. The works directly with students and staff in 13 French Immersion schools in an inclusive classroom setting. The primary responsibilitiies of the job is to provide all students with French cultural experiences; to create opportunities for students to interact in French and be exposed to what the French language and culture have to offer at the local, national and international level; to participate with teachers and administrators on numerous events; to offer opportunities that will encourage students to work on their oral performance and overall communication skills in French.. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES: Normally a job has four to eight core responsibilities, each of which shows what the job is accountable for, within what framework, and what the added value is. For each responsibility, approximately four major activities should be described. List the core responsibilities in ascending order of importance. 1. Identify and plan cultural and language activities that promote oral expression for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 in French Immersion programs 2. Consult with teacher and administrators to identify specific needs in each school and plan activities accordingly 3. Participate in short- and long term planning activities including specific goals for each school PROBLEM SOLVING: Describe difficult or challenging situations the position is typically expected to solve; the degree of originality of the solutions; assistance available; and any problems or decisions that must be referred to a supervisor for resolution or approval An event has been scheduled for one school, only to have the presentor cancel at the last minute. In consultation with the school staff, an alternative activity is developed and delivered. The cost of providing a cultural activitey has gone beyond the allocated budget for the event. In consultation with the supervisor and the school administrator, a decision is made to limit participation in the event or to find alternative ways to have the event funded. 4 needs. The job has the authority to revise program activities based on feedback and through monitoring effectiveness.. ORGANIZATIONAL DATA: Identify any measurable areas upon which the job has either direct or indirect impact. Measures that may be included are: number of staff supervised, annual operating budget, number and size of projects, clients served or any other significant values. The cultural and language activities promote oral expression for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 in French Immersion programs based on the learner outcomes of the French Language Arts learner outcomes in particular. The job focuses on 13 French immersion schools and works with older students (junior and senior high school) to involve them in the delivery of activities to younger (Kindergarten to elementary) students. Twenty-first century learner process is a set of skills that students will need as they move forward. These skills include both the use of technology and cultural sensitivity in respectful contacts with others. The job is one of two working to develop specific projects at different schools and at district level.
