1 Job Description Position Details Faculty/Professional Support Service School/Department Division/Section/Unit Job Title Vacancy No Services Learning and Research Information Services Library Services Senior Assistant Librarian (Research Support) Recruitment Team Grade 6 Hours of Work Contract Duration (Perm/Fixed Term) Reports To (Job Title) Responsible For (Job Title) 35 Hours per week Permanent Research Support Librarian Day to day supervision of professional and support staff within the section. Principal Accountabilities To work as part of a small team, supporting the Research Support Librarian in all aspects of their work, but particularly in relation to Research Data Management and the management of the Data Repository. The role will involve advocating and promoting the management of research data to all levels across the University and working with Research and Knowledge xchange who manage the University s Research Information System, Symplectic lements. The Library is committed to providing the highest level of customer service, and all staff are required, as part of their local and the wider team, to work flexibly in response to changing service needs and deliver excellence.

2 Key Tasks Service Delivery Work actively with the Research Support Librarian, University Librarian and Research and Knowledge xchange (RK) to deliver and manage a range of services supporting and underpinning Research Data Management (RDM) within the institution. Communication & interpersonal skills To promote Open Access (OA) issues, including the Institutional Repository and data management, to academics, researchers and library colleagues in the context of Funding Council mandates and RF requirements to ensure legal compliance and institutional good practice. To provide expert advice to stakeholders on RDM matters including data management planning, funder requirements, copyright, IPR, and issues related to data curation. To work with the Research Support Librarian to maintain current guidelines and advice for researchers on managing research data and ensure that they are promoted to researchers and incorporated into other research management guidelines as appropriate. Teamwork & networking To work closely with colleagues in the research team and the wider Library Service to provide a range of services for researchers across the institution. Participate actively in the development and delivery of the research team s aims and objectives to ensure that the service continues to improve. Knowledge and experience Awareness of policy developments regarding the management and accessibility of research data at a national and international level, the ability to disseminate new knowledge and ideas to colleagues within Library Services and make recommendations regarding implications and appropriate implementation at Manchester Metropolitan University. This will include participation in external professional groups and attending conferences and seminars. Teaching and Learning To prepare and deliver training, support, guidance and promotional materials in a range of formats, e.g. presentations, help sheets, podcasts, to enable colleagues, researchers and academics to engage effectively with Open Research issues. 3 Miscellaneous You have a legal duty, so far as is reasonably practicable, to ensure that you do not endanger yourself or anyone else by your acts or omissions. In addition, you must cooperate with the University on health and safety matters and must not interfere or misuse anything provided for health, safety and welfare purposes. Such other relevant duties commensurate with the grade of the post as may be assigned by the Manager in agreement with you. Such agreement should not be unreasonably withheld. You may be required to undertake a specific Health & Safety role, commensurate with your grade, to support the University in meeting its statutory Health & Safety obligations. This could include acting as a DS Assessor, First Aider, Fire Marshall or Departmental Safety Co-ordinator. The allocation of such roles will be subject to the provision of appropriate training and assessment of competence. 5 2.1 Good understanding of the current scholarly I/P research environment in the context of Higher ducation, in particular Open Access and 2 General & Specialist Knowledge 2.2 Research Data Management.
