Our mission is to achieve the most desirable life outcomes for children facing adversity and their families and communities through better use of evidence in practice and policy. We do this by: Generating evidence that contributes to the design of effective policies and programs that support children, families and their communities Translating and disseminating high-quality evidence to support evidence-informed policymaking, thereby promoting policy and service decisions that have the best chance of succeeding Using the science of implementation to build the capacity of organisations to effectively deliver high-quality services Increasing the effectiveness of policy and services through rigorous evaluation of policies, services and their implementation 1

2 Role Purpose The primary role of the Director is to lead a portfolio of CEI projects across both our implementation science, research and evaluation areas. The Director will contribute to the development of CEI to grow the Centre s business and organisational capacity. Key Areas of Accountability Lead high-profile projects, while developing team members: Lead the design, planning and delivery of projects, or components of a variety of projects, but primarily high-quality evaluations Assume operational responsibility for allocated projects including: Establishing and supporting project governance Staffing allocation and budgeting Project financial planning, performance and accountability Compliance with organisational risk management and quality requirements Effective and efficient client management and reporting Manage, support and mentor staff in applied research and evaluation Work in an integrated way with others on the CEI team as required, bringing high-level research and evaluation expertise to help achieve project outcomes Develop, support and follow research and evaluation quality control processes Provide strategic and expert technical direction, advice, support and assistance to CEI s project and program staff Build high performing project teams and develop team members 2

3 Support the strategic growth of CEI: Contribute to the development and implementation of a plan that will grow the Centre s business and organisational capacity, strategic competitiveness and ensure continuous quality improvement, with a focus on the Centre s research and evaluation activities Lead and / or contribute to the development of competitive tenders, including drafting and budget development Represent CEI at relevant forums and meetings Coordinate and develop appropriate thought leadership and other business development material Manage complex stakeholder relationships, including with collaborating organisations, clients and other funders Identify and build new relationships with research and evaluation partner organisations Health and safety requirements Act in a safe manner at all times, including complying with all safety instructions and training given at the workplace Participate in, and contribute to, health and safety awareness and improvements Comply with emergency evacuation procedures Report all incidents, injuries and potential hazards in a timely manner Security and risk management requirements Be aware of, and consider, the risks associated with your everyday work and apply appropriate mitigation measures Child protection and safeguarding requirements Safeguard children s rights and act in the best interests of children at all times Comply with child safeguarding and protection policies and standards 3

5 Key Selection Criteria Essential: Exceptional conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills Extensive skills and experience in designing and conducting quantitative and qualitative research, including formative and summative program evaluation and evaluations using hybrid designs Extensive knowledge and skills in the science and practice of disseminating, implementing and improving evidence-based practice in human services Extensive experience in applied implementation of data and evaluation systems in frontline practice and service delivery Strong track record in delivering research and evaluation projects within agreed timeframes Strong business acumen, and proven ability to attract funding support for work that is critical to an organisation s strategic and/or business success Demonstrated ability to achieve results through genuine collaboration with a diverse range of stakeholders Demonstrated skills in defining key outcomes, identifying critical pathways, and troubleshooting project obstacles Strong team work skills and demonstrated capacity to lead successful project teams Exceptional written and verbal communication skills Evidence of a high level of personal productivity and work impact Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment An established national and/or international reputation in areas relevant to CEI mission Required qualifications and / or accreditations: Post-graduate degree in health, social science or related discipline 5
