16 Exemption Application Form (APL1) / Portfolio of Evidence APL (Accreditation of Prior Learning) is an assessment process through which students can demonstrate the attainment of relevant learning outcomes without duplicating previous learning. This application/portfolio of evidence is in FIVE parts: 1. Personal Information 2. Modules for Exemption 3. Application for exemption based on AP(C)L ie, previously assessed and certificated learning 4. Application for exemption based on AP(E)L ie, learning achieved outside formal education and training systems 5. Evidence Register and Evidence.

18 PART 3: APPLICATION FOR EXEMPTION BASED ON ACCREDITATION OF PRIOR CERTIFICATED LEARNING AP(C)L AP(C)L denotes the Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning which is learning that has been previously assessed and/or arising from professional awards, eg, HNDs, foundation degrees, Open University courses and other courses at an appropriate level. I enclose the following documentation (please tick as appropriate): Certificate of award * Academic transcripts ** Programme and Module content or descriptors for courses undertaken Official letters of confirmation from the relevant awarding body, academic or technical institution or any other form of qualification evidence. 19 PART 4: APPLICATION FOR EXEMPTION BASED ON ACCREDITATION OF PRIOR EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING AP(E)L AP(E)L denotes Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning which is uncertificated (not previously assessed), eg, un/paid work, community/voluntary activities, leisure pursuits, internships, company training schemes, CPD courses and/or other informal learning experiences.. Experience on on its its own is is insufficient grounds for gaining credit. APEL credits the learning which the learner can demonstrate from his/her own experience.
