1 SUPERINTENDENT Introduction The Superintendent s primary function for Superior Gunite is one of the most important activities in our operations. The Superintendent is the company's representative with the responsibility and authority for daily coordination and direction of the project so that it is safe, within budget, on schedule, meets the company's quality standards, and meets the customer's satisfaction. To accomplish this, you must conceptualize a plan to construct the project and ensure that the daily and weekly activities are consistent with this plan. The Superintendent and the Project Manager will work together as a complementary team. The sum of their combined effort is greater than their individual efforts. The Superintendent can concentrate most of his or her time on the daily and short-range direction of the projects. It is through the Superintendent s efforts of effectively working crews, organizing work, and scheduling subcontractor s activities to work in unity with each other, that maximum profits are attained. The Superintendent is appointed by the Area Manager and must have the following qualifications: An ability to thoroughly understand and follow plans and specifications in the construction of project. Leadership ability Thorough knowledge of construction techniques and the imagination to derive the most efficient method of completing a task. Foresight to predict problems before they develop. Aptitude for cost/quantity critical reasoning A conscientious attitude towards controlling job costs and adhering to progress schedules. Ability to use all equipment associated with project and oversee all aspects of project layout. Ability to communicate our plan and sequence of activities to all subcontractors and material suppliers to effectively implement our goals. 5+ year s construction experience in Concrete or Shotcrete Applications. Experience with all facets of concrete construction both new and rehab, as well as demolition, forming, shoring, rebar, and various placement techniques including Shotcrete. 2 Computer skills Excel, Word, Various scheduling programs Purpose The purpose of this standard procedure is to define the job description of the Superintendent through the outline of his/her duties, authorities, and responsibilities. Authority The Superintendent reports to the Area Manager and is granted full authority to request for hire, terminate, and recommend for promotions all personnel under his/her jurisdiction. Responsibility The Superintendent is directly responsible to the Area Manager for the proper discharge of his/her duties. He may delegate portions of his/her authority to other qualified personnel, but does not relinquish total responsibility. Duties The Superintendent s principal duty is to properly schedule the work of the crews, equipment and subcontractors to achieve maximum production in the most efficient manner. In order to carry out this overall duty, the following duties must be properly fulfilled: PROJECT/PRACTICE RELATED COMPETENCIES Project /Practice Management Ascertain that craftsmen are well qualified and are efficiently carrying out duties assigned. Mentors, develops and establishes a successful Training Program for key foremen, crafts and positions. Properly layout projects with Project Foremen, making certain that the proper means and methods are followed and the project is similar in kind as per bidding documents. Review the job schedules and cost breakdown, resolving all differences of opinion with Project Manager at the beginning of the job. Insure that job offices and equipment trailers and see that permits, labor notices, safety rules and regulations, and company, local, state and federal material are posted in a conspicuous place. Set up sanitary stations and water coolers in strategic areas. See that company, local, state and federal policies in employing personnel are complied with. 2 SUPERINTENDENT SUPERIOR GUNITE 2015

3 See that the safety regulations are followed by company and subcontractor crews. Safety meetings must be adequately attended. Have a thorough knowledge of the plans and specifications for each of the projects. Maintain a high standard of quality control at all times. See that good housekeeping practices are observed and maintained by both Superiors crews and subcontractors on all projects. Ascertain that safety mechanisms are in proper place and safety equipment is properly operating. Maintain a good relationship with the Project Manager / General Superintendent seeking his/her assistance in the scheduling of materials, equipment and subcontractors. Ensure the progress schedules are current, review schedule status and job costs at least once each week with Project Managers / Area Manager. Review all Project Foreman s daily reports each day. Insure that all change orders are properly executed and indicated on as-built plans with Project Managers. Review attendance / manpower reports each morning and afternoon. Maintain good relationships with inspectors, architects, subcontractors and other key people connected with the projects. Review all equipment use reports each day. Overview the coordination of equipment maintenance on the projects and supervise effective utilization. Attend, on request, all technical meetings for the purpose of discussing job progress and problem areas. Maintain close communication with Project Managers and Project Foremen on any unforeseen problems which may develop. Assist Project Managers in estimating percent completion of each item for monthly invoicing and of labor for each job cost report. The above duties are not meant to restrict initiative, but rather to define minimum activities. These duties may be altered to suit the needs of the Company. Helps project foremen and craftsmen in personal development plans at project level. Seeks and participates in development opportunities above and beyond training required by us. Trains other project foremen, craftsmen and clients through both formal and informal training programs. Encourages more project foremen and craftsmen to take responsibility for their development within the company and at project level. Challenges project foremen and craftsmen to progress toward their professional development goals. Internal Operations Suggests areas for improvement in internal processes along with possible solutions. Leads project team in solution finding. Approves project craftsmen' time and expense reports in a conscientious and timely manner. Reviews the status reports of project craftsmen and addresses issues as appropriate.
