What is working in Advisory like? KPMG s Advisory practices are structured into the following groups; Restructuring & Forensic Risk Consulting Corporate Finance Transaction Services On joining the Advisory practice, you will become part of one of these multi-disciplinary teams. Depending on your focus, you could be working on activities such as mergers and acquisitions, finance raising or restructuring, business valuations, fraud investigations, insolvency, crisis management, and business performance process improvement. At KPMG we advise clients on what to do and help them to make better decisions, reduce costs, build a more effective organisation, with technology and risk management strategies. You could be working on projects such as advising companies in financial difficulty, formulating turnaround strategies or working on insolvency appointments. From Day 1 you will be supported in the placement through the Buddy System where each placement is assigned a Buddy to help them settle in. You will develop and build on your communication and interpersonal skills as you interact with different people at all levels in order to fully understand the client s business. To assist you in this, you will undertake training courses such as Team Skills and Presentation Skills. You will also develop your IT skills in training session and also on the job by using software such as excel and tax related software on a daily basis. We also provide an Accommodation Guide for students moving to Dublin to help with the task of securing a place to live.

2 What unique experience will I get? Joining KPMG will give you a varied, exciting, challenging and fun experience. Each year our placements create a Sports & Social club run by placements for placements. Events held by this club include a Formal Ball, Summer BBQ, weekends away, Christmas party, Table Quiz and more! You will have a chance to get involved in these events and meet students from all over Ireland. KPMG has a vibrant sports scene most notably with Tag Rugby, Golf and Hockey. Placements also take part in Corporate Social Days out which have included Sports Days with St. Michaels House and our annual Senior Citizens Christmas party. You will have the chance to attend numerous other events. Past placement students spent an afternoon training with Olympic Gold medallist Katie Taylor and attended a talk from KPMG s Robert Mortell the youngest Irish person to climb Mount Everest. What are my career prospects like? Each year we hire circa 280 talented and ambitious graduates to work in KPMG. On the Graduate Programme, you work in our Audit, Tax or Advisory practices and study towards the Chartered Accountants of Ireland qualification. The Work Placement Programme acts as an important hiring pipeline into our Graduate Training Programme. We recognise that ambitious students are passionate about their career development, and we offer the majority of our placement students the opportunity to join us on a graduate programme after graduation. Where will I work? We have positions based in our Dublin offices. Depending on the department you work in, you will regularly be based at the client s premises, continuously acquiring and sharing knowledge with fellow team members. How long is it for? You will complete an 8, 10, or 12 week internship with us, joining in June How do I apply? What is working in Tax like? You will join our Tax Consulting group where, working alongside KPMG professionals, you will have the opportunity to develop your business skills. You will develop your commercial awareness in our areas of expertise such as Aircraft Leasing, Mega Transactions, Bloodstock, Property and Technology. You will also have the opportunity to work with our national and international clients to make the best business decisions in light of fiscal change and development. The role of a Tax Consultant is to monitor and anticipate changes to tax legislation, in Ireland and abroad, and to respond quickly with advice tailored to our clients commercial requirements. Almost everything a business does has a taxation implication. At each step of the way businesses need to be advised of their obligations under taxation law. Audit is essential for the operation of any business. An auditor conducts financial examinations to provide an opinion on whether clients financial reports provide an accurate reflection of their business. In the role you will be part of a team that conducts audits for business clients and provides a top class service ensuring that a company s annual account, Profit and Loss accounts and balance sheet all represent a true and fair view of its financial activity.
