1 CITY OF KENOSHA invites applications for the position of: Engineering Technician (Part Time) An Equal Opportunity Employer SALARY: $18.50 /Hour OPENING DATE: 05/03/16 CLOSING DATE: 05/18/16 04:30 PM GENERAL OVERVIEW OF POSITION: PART TIME This recruitment is open to all qualified individuals and will establish an eligibility list which will be used to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill any other such openings in this classification which occur within the next 12 months. person can be employed who has a relative already employed by the City of Kenosha in a position covered by the Civil Service Ordinance or who has a relative in any elected office/position in City of Kenosha government, as defined in Section V of the Civil Service Ordinance. "Relative" includes any member of the immediate household; or anyone whose relationship by blood or marriage is as close or closer than first-cousin, including "step" relationships; or any grandparent or grandchild. Under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Engineering (Assistant City Engineer) in the Department of Public Works - Engineering Division, with instruction from assigned Project Engineers, this position is responsible for performing a variety of unskilled and skilled manual tasks. Most positions work first shift, Monday through Friday for a maximum of 29 hours per week. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Inspect and develop work orders for yearly detention basin and storm water management facilities. Aid in the preparation and continued maintenance of the City wide GIS storm sewer system map. Aid in the organization and management of stormwater management files at City Hall and a remote location. Takes measurements and makes computations. Inputs information into CAD or database software. 1 of 5 05/03/ :51 PM

2 Inputs information into GIS or Access. Interpret, apply and communicate regulations and policies. Work independently and meet schedules and deadlines. Direct and maintain a variety of reports and files. Ability to read and interpret legal documents such as State Statutes, Code of General Ordinances, and Zoning Ordinances. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. REQUIREMENTS: Training and Experience: Must be eighteen (18) or older. High school diploma, GED or equivalent. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Advanced knowledge of laws and codes pertaining to construction. Ability to plan and organize a project from start to finish. Ability to organize and conduct technical research work and compile technical reports. Above average oral and written communication skills. Proficiency with software in Microsoft Office and usage of electronic mail. Ability to perform basic GIS database entry is desirable. Physical Requirements: Tasks involve the regular, and at times sustained, performance of working over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stopping, working in confined spaces, and lifting or carrying moderately heavy (20-50 pound) items and occasionally very heavy (100 pounds or over) items. Tasks may involve operation of gasoline, electric or other powered machinery. Tasks may also involve the frequent use of coordinative skills in performing a variety of tasks with the full range of hand tools and shop equipment. Inspection duties may involve prolonged walking over long distances. Environmental Requirements: Tasks may require frequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Sensory Requirements: Task requires perception and discrimination in sound, odor, visual, color, depth, and texture. Task requires oral communications ability. Additional Requirements: Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record. May be required to provide a personal vehicle for use on the job. 2 of 5 05/03/ :51 PM
