1 The General Manager is responsible for maintaining and increasing the commercial success of the pub. In an increasingly competitive market, you must constantly adapt to ensure that the bar is profitable, pleasant and safe. As licensee you are legally responsible for the venue. With duties ranging from front-of-house work to staff recruitment, marketing, accounting and stock control, the role requires strong social, commercial and practical skills. Ability to delegate is a must. Utilizing the Assistant Manager, duty managers and bar staff is essential in managing your time effectively. A can do attitude is required at all times. You will report to the directors of Northbar Ltd The General Manager will work 48hours per week on a flexible basis. Annual pay: 25,000 p.a. + expenses + performance related bonus The job is based in the Leeds Travel to Work area. You are entitled to 28 days holiday (including public holidays) in each holiday year (1 April to 31 March) pro rata based on a 48 hour week. Additionally, with the support of the assistant manager you will be required to maintain the following; taking responsibility for pub safety and security; maintaining health and safety standards (bar, kitchen and other areas) at all times; liaising with customers (including serving food and drink); monitoring profitability and performance to ensure sales targets are met or exceeded; undertaking regular stock checks and placing orders with suppliers; meeting with the directors to assess performance and set sales targets; collecting customer feedback and acting on it to improve the overall running of the venue; ensuring that The Cross Keys adheres to various legal frameworks (this can involve a lot of paperwork). Holding weekly management and kitchen meetings & discussing all relevant issues concerning the running of The Cross Keys. Meeting regularly with the Operations Manager and attending at least one monthly meeting with the Directors to discuss all relevant issues concerning the running of The Cross Keys, and a review of the fiscal performance of the venue.

Recruiting to ensure the pub constantly has bar and waiting staff that stand out from our competitors. This will be aided by following up good applications and CVs (regardless of need) and regular review and upkeep of the staffing opportunities Google Document. Advertising for staff when needed using the website, social media, posters and whatever other means you feel suitable. Holding interviews and trial shifts and implementing a probationary period (6 weeks with 3 week review). Training and assessing all staff according to the training programme and maintaining training records. Assessing the probationary period and eliminating unsuitable candidates. Adhering to the HR process, ensuring all starters and leavers are processed in accordance to company requirements by close of business Thursday before pay day use of starter/leaver forms & upkeep of details on a regular basis. Continually monitoring the staffs abilities and training requirements. Delegating jobs and ensuring the smooth running of the pub Maintaining staff discipline, monitoring punctuality, uniform & performance. Dismissing staff if required, following the necessary procedures in accordance with the staff handbook. Essentially, managing the staff is the key to the smooth running of The Cross Keys, and the ease of your role. If you make sure the staff are doing their jobs properly everything else will fall into place, the service, stock, sales figures and general atmosphere will all be good. It requires the staff to be doing their jobs properly, not you to do their jobs for them. Using the rota planner to help write the rota, monitoring the hours and adhering to the wage budget (P&L meeting). Use of the Holiday Calculator document (inc spreading holidays evenly, going into a manageable negative equity, no run over into following financial year). Monitoring staff holidays, ensuring adequate cover is given. Liaising with Head Office for holiday requests. Using the rota planning tool correctly, ensuring Head Office have an up to date copy (at least 2 weeks in advance).

4 Ensuring we have door staff as and when we need them, paying attention to potentially troublesome football matches, bank holidays etc. Managing the ordering, holding, display and promotion of stock. Working closely with the Operations Manager to adhere to particular guidelines with stock, GP and promotion. Sourcing the best prices from suppliers whilst ensuring the quality and integrity of our product range. Ensuring we re meeting necessary GPs on all products. Carrying out weekly line checks on a variety of products and reporting at weekly management meetings. Comparing results to Tina s at stock takes (should match) Monitoring all wastage, making sure all reports are kept up to date. Making sure that Tina s monthly stock takes run smoothly by adhering to all of the above points and making sure everything is in place when Tina comes in. Keeping paperwork in order, managing transfer notes, keeping a tidy and well organised cellar and stock room. Meeting stock take targets and ensuring a surplus between 1.5 and 2.5% is achieved at all times. Analysing results and acting upon them. You will be involved directly with customers in terms of service, and also have a duty to ensure all staff are delivering service in accordance with the company s objectives, with an emphasis on the enforcement of excellent table service. Collecting customer feedback and acting on it to improve the overall running of the venue, using whatever means possible including Trip Advisor, s, FB, Twitter, Instagram, Yelp, Google, etc. Regular upkeep and printing of menus in accordance with our formatting guidelines whilst monitoring the content in terms of being in keeping with our product ethos. Daily upkeep of blackboards paying particular attention to the presentation, consistency and spelling. Using Wordpress for the upkeep of the website of the venue so that content is up to date. Working with the Operations Manager, suppliers and the Directors to design, promote and implement events at yours and our other venues when they arise.

5 Regular use of social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter & Instagram for marketing campaigns to promote products, events and services. Issuing press releases etc to obtain free publicity in local and national media. Using the above means and others to ensure that customers are kept up to date with new products, events and services and with an aim to cross-promote all of the venues within the North Bar Ltd brand. This is of utmost importance, failure to keep records up to date and the premises up to the standard required will result in financial penalties or imprisonment. You will be required to have a detailed knowledge of and keep up to date the following; Diligent use of Safer food better business file. Upkeep of the Inspection Record, Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment files. Upkeep of the accidents and incidents record and ensuring we comply with legislation in terms of first aid. Taking into consideration any factors that have the potential to undermine the security of the pub such as potentially volatile Leeds Utd football matches as well as enforcing and monitoring a high level of diligence in terms of general security, the alarm process, locked doors, window locks etc. Full study and understanding licensing law and how it applies specifically to your site in terms of the venue license, and ensuring we comply fully with it. Communication with the kitchen team is vital. Holding a pre service 5 minute meeting morning and evening will be of great value. You will foster a positive relationship with the kitchen staff, making sure all necessary information is available to all concerned. You may be required to play a role in assisting in the writing of seasonal and specialist menus. Monitoring the maintenance requirements of the venue, assessing and applying necessary actions to restore. Weekly walk around and check documenting and actioning work required with deadlines sharing this info with HO. Reviewing & arranging areas that require decorating. 6 Ensuring the staff know what is suitable music and volume to be played in the premises. Ensuring the venue is as atmospheric as possible, including such things as ensuring fires are lit to create a welcoming, cosy ambience, and the lighting and temperature are at optimum levels etc. The above job description is a non exhaustive list and you may be required to carry out further tasks specified by the company that are outside of your job description on occasion, to meet the needs of the bars.
